RN: Degrees: BSN and MSN with some extra course work in related content such as Ethics. Previous certif include Certified Thanatologist (specialization of mine), Trauma Care, Critical Incident Stress Mngt.
Have taught online courses in Med Terms and general Psychiatric Nsg, Have also taught didactic courses in general nsg, nursing success strategies. Working 1 on 1 with students for study skills, course content improvement, test taking skills, and methods of retention of content, etc leading to improvement in grades and application of nsg knowledge for tests and NCLEX exam. Class work incl'd tricks for memory of complex content & application of knowledge to real situation through interactive classroom activities. Recipient of "2nd Annual Teaching Excellence Award" for Austin Community College based on nomination by my students b/c of teaching expertise and ability to make the topics interesting, enjoyable to discuss, and fun to learn.
Student usually >18 years old. Some HS college credit students, with many students doing first college experiences, or second career paths. >50 years teaching in higher education. Have taught in all levels of nsg education and in all levels of nsg settings. Stud. populations have included ESL students from Asia and Africa as well as Spanish speaking students, students with poor educational backgrounds for college education level classes thus needing individual assistance with vocabulary, content, and organization of study materials / textbook usage / and note taking. Written assignments required my proofing and assistance with writing skills. Without English degree, such help was based upon my own skill and abilities at writing. I have contributed a chapter on Death / Grief to a nursing Fundamentals textbook by Helen Harkreader. Wrote entire chap. and then had some editing done by publishing group -primarily content inclusion or exclusion, not actual writing style.
I love teaching and can easily communicate that love for learning to and with students.

Have done over 100 lay or professional presentations during my career. Most have been re. death, dying, grief, and loss but also content meeting Texas RN licensure requirements for Geriatric Nursing. Presentations have been given as key note addresses, breakout sessions in workshops, individual guest speakers to lay groups and to professional organizations, have also given presentations on staff motivation including graduation speaker and keynote to hospital volunteers. Student classroom feedback supports public speaking and making content understandable as well as being nominated by students and receiving Second Annual Teaching Excellence Award for Austin Community College 1996.
Speech

Speech

I have organized and presented didactic courses and presentations to various groups on a wide variety of subjects. These include development of a 3 credit hour elective course on Death & Dying as well as full workshops on various topics. Creating a speech on any topic involves development of ideas and content in a logical manner so that it builds on the preceding content. Students will be able to understand material that presented from a simple to complex format and with examples illustrating the points covered.
