Bio

Hey, everyone! My name is Stephenson and I'm excited to work with you. I had the privilege of having great teachers and mentors throughout my life who heavily contributed to my success today. Now, I hope to pay it forward and equip my students with the same self-sufficient problem-solving tools and frameworks that will enable them to tackle any subject.

Hey, everyone! My name is Stephenson and I'm excited to work with you. I had the privilege of having great teachers and mentors throughout my life who heavily contributed to my success today. Now, I hope to pay it forward and equip my students with the same self-sufficient problem-solving tools and frameworks that will enable them to tackle any subject.

By the end of high school, I had taken 19 AP Exams, scoring a 5 in AP Calculus BC as well as earning AP Scholar with Distinction by junior year. I attended The University of Texas at Austin where I got two bachelor's degrees in Finance and Economics. I was on the Dean's List for all semesters and earned two presidential scholarships for my academic and extracurricular achievements. I have 600+ hours of tutoring experience teaching primarily high school and college students in math and economics. All of my students thus far have gone off to ace or earn top scores in their respective examinations.

I strongly believe that the learning journey is more important than the destination. Rather than think, "when am I ever going to use this again?", frame your mindset around, "when am I going to learn something difficult again?" By focusing on the learning process and the takeaways that come with it, you can set yourself up for success in anything you choose to pursue.

I take a "teach a man to fish" approach and have my students embark on a learning process that will lead to better understanding of a subject and a consistent, reliable process of breaking down complex problems. Before a session even begins, I like to take time to review materials students send me (e.g., class notes, assignments, exam reviews, etc.) to develop a game plan around the class's objectives. Then, as we begin to tackle different problems, I equip students with frameworks and problem-solving methods that help them actually understand the material. The goal is that they leave the session with autonomy and confidence to solve future problems.

Stephenson was a God send!

From the first message I sent to Stephenson, he was very responsive and assured me that he could help with my Macroeconomics course. I let him know that I was going to need to meet with him at least 4 times a week for 7 weeks straight. He immediately helped to create a schedule for our meetings and worked out times that worked for both of us. I work fulltime and I am located on the west coast and he on the east coast, he was very flexible and accommodating. I had a really hard time in my last econ class which I did not pass, and I was very worried that I may not pass this class. If I didn't pass this class, I couldn't graduate. He assured me that we would do whatever we needed to do to get a passing grade. We met for long hours, sometimes 3 hour sessions. He kept encouraging me and telling me I was doing better, and I was, thanks to his teaching and support. I can proudly say that I passed my class with flying colors! I am very thankful for Stephenson, he helps students because he cares and it shows! He is passionate and next level intelligent. I will always be grateful for time together! PS - Reliability and Responsiveness is very very important to me, it would be horrible to not be able to depend on someone in addition to the stress of having to take a challenging class. Stephenson, is both responsive and reliable. That is hard to find!

I reached out to Stepehenson in a frenzy because I’m doing an executive masters in healthcare administration degree, and my finance class has me very lost and confused. As someone with no prior finance background or knowledge, this class has been extremely difficult for me. I sent Stephenson all of the materials which I was having trouble with, and he quickly helped me correct some data, as well as explained to me the reason why I was wrong in a manner which I could understand and grasp. He also guided me through formulas explaining each section of the case model.
