Over the last 4 years, I have tutored many different courses and material to a variety of age groups. I am confident that my experience in these last four years will prove beneficial as a tutor for Wyzant.

I am currently a college sophomore at the University of Texas at Austin. In my high school career, I took various courses, including 11 AP courses of which I received a score of 4 or 5 on the AP exams. Continuing my education career in college, I have taken many higher level math and science courses, such as discrete mathematics, linear algebra, & advanced physics, that have given me a deeper understanding of the introductory courses taken in high school. In addition, I have various certifications in Microsoft Office that helped me gain proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. In summary, I have an extensive educational background that allows me to tutor in many specific areas.

In my application, I specifically noted math topics that I would like to tutor, as I have the most experience tutoring mathematics. About 3 years ago, I started a job at a tutoring center in my area focusing on helping students from ages 8 - 16 excel in their math & reading books, The students would sit in groups of 3-4 and work on their books, asking instructors like myself for help if they needed it. Furthermore, I also did a lot of one-on-one tutoring in various math topics, such as Algebra & Geometry. Throughout my experience, I learned a lot about the best ways to help students understand concepts. One of the main approaches I used that helped students a lot is by crafting a similar problem on my own, allowing the student to go through each step one-by-one, and then letting them solve the problem they had in their books. This helped students develop their problem solving skills as they were able to understand exactly how to do different problems and how to apply it to other problems, allowing them to significantly improve in their courses.
