Grammar,

When do you use the pronouns "I" or "me" and "who" or "whom"? The rules of English grammar are both simple and complex; the mechanics of grammar and punctuation can be tricky and confusing for both native English and ESL speakers. I can teach you how to navigate the rules and mechanics of grammar and punctuation to check/correct common errors like incorrect pronoun case, subject-verb agreement, and comma splices, and to spot uncommon errors like faulty parallelism. Also, I will coach you how and when to use active verbs and semi-colons to write more vividly and concisely to ace your essay or test.
Proofreading,

Proofreading

As a high-achieving university graduate with a 4.0 GPA, I have written more than a hundred papers, at least twenty-five research essays, and aced all my classes. I believe the difference between mediocrity and superiority is editing the format and flow of your writing, and proofreading for mechanical errors in spelling, grammar, and punctuation. Yes, I know it's tedious, but do you know how rewarding it is to learn how to edit and proofread your own writing? I can teach you how to catch common and unusual errors, and how to manually proof-read your papers, so you can succeed and excel in all classes.

My tutoring experience includes teaching phonics and whole language to children and adults with reading challenges. Consequently, my students read more fluently, confidently, and with style and expression! Furthermore, I teach students how to read with a critical "eye" and analyze literary works by authors such as Twain, Melville, Poe, Tennyson, and the quintessential Shakespeare. You can improve your test scores dramatically by reading critically.

What's the difference between an allegory and allusion, and between alliteration and assonance? I can teach you what the literary terms mean and provide examples in works of fiction, non-fiction, poetry, and drama. I've mastered upper-level English courses in American, British, and World Literature, Global Drama, East Asian and Shakespearean Studies. My tutoring experience includes teaching high school and college students how to read works of American, British, and Global authors critically. Furthermore, I enable my students to interpret, critique, and understand Shakespeare's complex arcane language.

What are the fundamental differences between Messianic law for the chosen few and the promise of the New Covenant for all believers of the Messiah? Why did Jesus teach by parables and paradoxes? I have successfully completed college-level survey courses in the history and philosophy of the Old and the New Testament. Additionally, I have participated in Q & A Bible Study sessions on the Synoptic Gospels, Paul's epistles to the founding churches, and his pastoral letters. In my teaching, I believe in filtering all universal truths through the lens of Christian revelation. More importantly, I teach students to interpret challenging scriptural verses by comparing and cross-referencing with other verses and books in the Bible.

Excellent Teacher

My needs were difficult because they were all over the place with different levels of reading, writing and grammar. It was difficult to find a tutor that could meet my needs and propel me into a better education. In a short amount of time I was reading very well every day, I was amazed! Mary holds me accountable for the lesson plans and homework that she gives me, yet she is always encouraging and has a 'you can do it' attitude. All of my skills have improved greatly and I continue to work with Mary as she is going to prepare me for my GED. I never dreamed that would be possible before and now it is. I feel so blessed to have found her as my tutor/teacher/friend. I believe Mary would be a great tutor for any age individual.
