Hi, I'm Taylor! I currently work as a 3rd grade teacher. I'm also working on a Psychology degree at the University of Texas at Arlington, which will be completed with a teaching certification for Science (grades 7-12). I have a passion for cognition and cognitive development, and hope to research and teach about "how" we learn. This interest in cognition fuels my tutoring approach, as I use methods in my sessions that have strong scientific backing and that will most engage my students. One key approach is my use of guiding to help students find the answers to the questions themselves, as the process of thinking through problems (with guidance) can help with deeply encoding the information; this means that the concept is likely to be better remembered even after the sessions are done!

As a teacher, I work at a classical academy that focuses on Socratic seminars and conversation as the driving force of learning. The curriculum is specific and includes the Spalding method of reading and writing as well as Singapore math. In my classroom the focus is on inquiry-based learning and student-driven lessons.

Most of my tutoring experience comes from my time as a General Chemistry I PLTL leader at UTA. This unique tutoring program is collaborative and heavily rooted in cognitive science. While I was a leader, I conducted chemistry sessions weekly with 8-10 students, all of which were working to get their undergraduate degree at UTA. My sessions were very active; I made learning games and activities to keep every student engaged and able to collaborate with their peers to solve problems and make connections.

Beyond traditional tutoring sessions, I have an eye for informational writing and have editing experience. I have done freelance work editing corporate presentations as well as essay editing. I also worked as a research assistant on an education dissertation.

I am always ready to grow in both my learning and teaching style and welcome student feedback!
