My name is Ms. Burkett and I have 27 years of experience teaching math with a Mathematics Certification for Grades 1–8. My academic background and certification have equipped me with a deep understanding of both elementary and middle school mathematics instruction. I have spent the majority of my career teaching mathematics in a classroom setting, with extensive experience across multiple grade levels, which include 6th–8th Grade Math for 20 years, 5th Grade Math for 4 years, and 3rd Grade Math for 3 years.

This broad grade-level experience allows me to clearly identify learning gaps, scaffold instruction effectively, and prepare students for academic transitions, particularly from elementary to middle school math.

My teaching approach is student-centered and structured, with an emphasis on building strong foundational math skills,
breaking down complex concepts into manageable steps, using multiple strategies to support different learning styles,
and reinforcing understanding through guided practice and real-world applications.

I focus on helping students develop confidence in math by emphasizing conceptual understanding, problem-solving skills, and mathematical reasoning rather than rote memorization.

I have worked primarily with students ranging from approximately ages 8–14, supporting learners in both upper elementary and middle school. My experience includes full-classroom instruction, small-group support, and one-on-one tutoring and intervention.

I have worked with students at varying academic levels, including those needing remediation, grade-level support, and enrichment. I believe that all students can succeed in math with the right support, patience, and instruction. My goal is to create a positive learning environment where students feel encouraged, capable, and motivated to take ownership of their learning.
