Hi, my name is Simon and I'm originally from the UK so please excuse the strange accent.

I have been working in the graphics field in various industries for almost 30 years, having experience in various types of printing including litho/web, screen printing, and digital printing, including all setup, maintenance and pre-press.

I worked for 10 years in the automotive materials industry creating textures and prints for car interiors at the OEM level. After this I moved into the screen printing field, printing T-shirts and other apparel, running a DTG and laser engraving department.

Currently I work in the sign industry creating ADA and commercial signage, using UV printing, laser cutting/engraving, and CNC cutting.

My areas of tutoring are Photoshop, Illustrator, color theory, DTG/DTF printing, UV printing, laser engraving/cutting, screen printing pre-press (both in vector and raster color separations), and have experience in CNC cutting, lean manufacturing, 5S, and other manufacturing practices.

In addition to my graphics career, I have been playing guitar and bass from my early teens. I have been in a number of bands who have been interviewed on radio, and opened for national touring acts. I have studied the music industry and created the podcast Music On Your Own Terms that reached 150 episodes and is still being regularly downloaded despite being on hiatus for several years.

I am excited to share my knowledge of both the graphics industry, as well as guitar and bass.

I have been playing the guitar for over 30 years and in that time performed with multiple bands. These have seen various levels of professional success including winning battle of the bands competitions, opening for several national touring acts and being interviewed on radio. One of my specialties is to analyze technique in great detail, and as a teacher break down the individual parts of playing an instrument, to firstly simplify the process for the student, but also to create a strong foundation so they can improve all aspects of playing to become an accomplished performer. I believe in hard work to accomplish goals, but also encourage students to have fun, enjoy the process of learning, gain confidence to play in front of others at any ability level and grow in all areas of music. My goal is to give students the tools to not only learn to express themselves through music, but to enrich their lives with the ability to communicate with other musicians and listeners and encourage positive relationships through the language of music.

I really feel like I am in the best hands with Simon. He is probably the smartest person I ever met. Although knowledgeable, he knows how to break everything down so that I can understand. I really enjoy how he gives examples to teach me. He doesn't just tell me what to. He explains why. He will also share personal experience which really humbles the lesson. And I don't feel so alone as a beginner.

I had mentioned what I wanted to learn regarding file changes for a specific digital printer. Simon did research before our class so he was well prepared for my needs and anticipated what I wanted to learn. Simon is very knowledgeable in Illustrator and Photoshop but more than that, he is able to explain in detail how things work, why we use certain tools in certain sequences to produce the desired results. He makes it easy to understand and is patient with me as I am fairly new to the software. So far after one class I am very impressed and looking forward to our next class!

In our first photoshop lesson Simon imported one of the illustrations I'd sent him which I wanted to work on. It was very helpful because he was able to show me the basics of layering, masking, brushes etc while applying it to the drawing which made it a more accessible way to understand the way Photoshop works.
