Originally from the United Kingdom, I completed undergraduate and master's degrees in history before going on to complete a doctorate in anthropology, all at the University of Oxford. In my historical studies I focused on the political and diplomatic histories of Britain, the United States, and Europe, while my anthropological work focused on religion and culture in South Asia, and involved two years of immersive fieldwork in Nepal. I have published a book, and articles in prestigious academic journals. This wide human and intellectual experience shapes my approach to teaching: I love to guide students beyond the superficial and the obvious to help them see the deep patterns and connections of history, enabling them to think and achieve at the highest level.
I have 10 years of teaching experience at university level, and some experience of teaching high schoolers also. While completing my doctorate, I taught undergraduates at the University of Oxford, and since moving to the United States in 2015 I have taught global history and anthropology at Abilene Christian University. I have wide knowledge and experience of teaching in many aspects of the modern (1500-present) history of the world, the United States, and Britain. I also have knowledge and experience in social science, government, and comparative studies, for example in evolutionary theory, ritual and mythology, and comparative studies of Christianity. I have experience in both the British and American educational systems, and would be confident tutoring both high school and undergraduate students in history, social studies, or government. Be prepared to be challenged: I strive to encourage students towards excellence in understanding, in written expression, and in academic achievement.
