My experience with Latin began in middle school and continued through college. I fell in love with the language and its relationship with modern Romance languages as well as its influence on English. In high school, I scored a perfect score on both the AP Latin exam and the national latin exam. I continued to study Latin, English, and Mathematics in college.
I tutored a few independent learners in college, and found I had a knack for teaching. I then began tutoring for my college as an upperclassmen, instructing underclass men who were struggling in Latin. Along the way, I also began helping students out with geometry and algebra. Altogether, I have 2 years of independent tutoring , working closely with individual students, and 2 years of more casual tutoring, helping students from time to time with a specific difficulty.
My goal in teaching is to help my students enjoy and do well in the subject they are learning. I have gentle teaching method and focus on active engagement from the student. I prefer to make tutoring more of a Socratic discussion than a lecturing experience when possible, as this method has been shown to better for students’ memory and critical thinking.
Book a trial appointment with me if you are interested in taking a deep dive into the Latin language or one of the mathematical disciplines.
