I’m British and graduated from Manchester Metropolitan University with a First-Class Honors Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Geography, where I developed a broad understanding of both physical geography and the geological sciences. My studies covered subjects including glaciology, palaeontology, sedimentology, volcanology, geology, hydrology, geomorphology, environmental change and Earth-surface processes. My dissertation focused on Holocene proglacial lake sediments on Disko Island, Greenland, where I investigated sedimentary evidence for past environmental change. The sediments were radiocarbon dated as part of the research, providing evidence for the presence and timing of the Little Ice Age in the region. This experience gave me a strong foundation in interpreting geological evidence, scientific data and environmental processes. Including laboratory work using XRF analysis.
Following university, I spent two years working professionally as an Engineering Geologist, applying my academic knowledge to real-world geological and environmental projects. My work involved geological investigation, interpreting site and ground conditions, analysing technical information and communicating scientific findings clearly. I worked on projects for major international organisations, including large-scale technology and infrastructure clients, giving me experience of applying geological principles in complex professional settings. I particularly enjoy breaking down difficult concepts into clear, understandable explanations and helping students develop the confidence to understand not just the answer, but the scientific reasoning behind it. I aim to make lessons engaging, supportive and tailored to each student’s level, whether they are looking for help with a specific topic, preparing for an exam or developing their wider understanding of geography and Earth sciences.
