About Jared

Bio

I started playing chess around the age of 5 with my grandpa. I’ve always loved math and helping other students succeed. I tutored mostly math through middle school and high school, and after graduation I began tutoring for a private school called Gorman K–12. I’ve taught both one-on-one and in classrooms, mostly elementary and middle-school students. I’ve always loved seeing the lightbulb turn on when an idea clicks in their mind — that’s what makes teaching fun for me, seeing them improve...

I’m a US Chess Tournament Director (TD) with Safe Play certification and school background clearance, so lessons are safe and structured. I focus on the fundamentals — openings, tactics, endgames, clock management — and I tailor each lesson to the student’s level. I also help kids get ready for tournaments while keeping lessons engaging and practical.
Outside of chess, I did MMA for several years, so I understand the importance of having a coach and a community to stay disciplined. I bring that same mindset to teaching chess: clear goals, steady progress, and a supportive environment. Whether your student is just starting or preparing to compete, I want them to enjoy the game and improve every step of the way!

I’ve been playing chess since I was 5 and love helping students improve. I’ve taught one-on-one and in classrooms, mostly elementary and middle-school students, and nothing beats that moment when the ideas click and confidence grows. I’m a US Chess Tournament Director (TD) with Safe Play certification and school background clearance, so lessons are structured, safe, and fun. I focus on fundamentals, tactics, endgames, and tournament prep, tailoring each lesson to the student’s level and goals.
