Hi, I'm Andie! I've taught college English classes at multiple universities for more than five years, including subjects such as college writing, nonfiction, and British and World Literature. In addition to teaching university undergraduates, I have also worked with high schoolers as a multi-subject teacher, and with middle school students as a chess coach. When it comes to teaching all of these subjects, I employ a student-centered, question-based pedagogical approach that treats writing, reading, and other forms of skill-building as a step-by-step process.
I started teaching while studying for my doctorate in English literature at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, which I received in 2024. I studied Shakespeare, Chaucer, Milton, and other English literature from their respective time periods. Samples of my writing can be found in Explorations in Renaissance Culture, Renaissance Drama, and other peer-reviewed journals in the field of early modern history and culture.
I believe language and literature tutoring can help students at all ages and experience levels develop lifelong skills in literacy, critical thinking, and argumentation. My tutoring emphasizes those skills through one-on-one writing consultation, question-based inquiry, and close reading. I treat each student as an individual person and adapt my pedagogy to their individual level of experience and preferred learning style.
I currently offer tutoring remotely on a flexible schedule. My specialties include reading, writing, and literature. I am especially experienced in providing additional preparation for high school students entering college.
