Hello,
I am Alana, and I began my educational journey at University of Tennessee in Knoxville (UTK) in 1994 where I received a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature. Then, I obtained a Masters in Secondary English Education from UTK after taking a year off to work in a law firm and take the LSAT because at first I thought I would be an attorney. I entered the classroom in 1999 and taught every subject in the English/ELA realm for the next 20 years in both public and private schools. Over the years I have taught every English course between 6th and 12th grade, Advanced Placement English Literature and Language and Composition, International Baccalaureate English Literature, IGCSE English, Shakespearean Studies, ACT Prep, World Literature, Creative Writing, and even a course entitled "Great Books." For the past 8 years, I have served as a literacy coach and now a Reading Specialist where I work closely with students to become better readers and writers. Furthermore, I have tutored students of all ages including college and Adult for the past 20 years in addition to my full-time job in the previously mentioned subjects as well as essay writing and even dissertations, for in 2017 I obtained my Doctorate in Education because my philosophy is, to quote Michelangelo: "I am still learning."
