I am a PhD-trained epidemiologist with a strong background in public health, statistics, research methods, GIS, and data analysis. I earned my PhD in Public Health with a specialization in Epidemiology from Walden University, a Master of Science in Geographic Information Science and Technology from the University of Southern California, and a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science from the University of Washington. Professionally, I have several years of experience as an epidemiologist working with public health datasets, surveillance systems, statistical analysis, GIS, and communicating research findings to both technical and nontechnical audiences. I have also contributed to peer-reviewed publications and national public health conference presentations.
I have several years of teaching, tutoring, and mentoring experience with undergraduate and graduate students. I previously worked as a teaching consultant, tutoring students one-on-one in public health, epidemiology, GIS, environmental science, statistics, and research methods. I have also mentored students working through research questions, study design, data analysis, and interpretation of results. My experience working with students has taught me that simply giving someone an answer is rarely helpful. I focus on explaining why an approach works and helping students develop the confidence to solve similar problems independently.
My tutoring style is patient, practical, and tailored to the individual student. I especially enjoy helping students who feel overwhelmed by statistics, epidemiology, GIS, or research methods break complicated problems into manageable steps. I can help students understand statistical concepts and output, develop research questions and methods, work through analyses, interpret results, and strengthen graduate-level research skills. My goal is for students to leave a session not only with a solution to the immediate problem, but with a much stronger understanding of how they got there.
