I came into teaching with over 5 years of laboratory experience and two published academic papers. I am now entering my fifth year as a licensed secondary education teacher in Tennessee. I have worked with students of all ages through volunteering, fellowships, my graduate program, and most recently as a high school chemistry teacher.
I graduated Summa Cum Laude from Berry College with an ACS Certified degree (B.S. in Chemistry). As part of this certification, I interned with a local chemical company (now Polyventive) for two years. While there, I trained other undergraduate students, and I wrote an instructional manual for how to organize the company's new inventory system.
During my graduate studies at Vanderbilt University, which culminated in a M.S. in Chemistry, I mentored two students during a summer program, and one of went on to enter Harvard University's graduate program the next year. I worked with up to thirty undergraduate students at a time through Organic Recitation (study hall) and Organic Chemistry Lab. Because of my scaffolded approach and dedication to my students during the height of the pandemic, I earned two teaching awards; one was through the Department of Chemistry, and one was University-wide. I also worked with middle school students for one year as a Scientist in the Classroom Fellow. In 2022, I received my secondary education teaching license while in Vanderbilt's Peabody College of Education job-imbedded program. Now, I am entering my third year as a high school chemistry teacher in Tennessee.
I am comfortable working with middle and high school students of all ranges of abilities and English language fluency. My specialties are organic chemistry and general chemistry. I enjoy making chemistry accessible to all students through teaching and tutoring!
