I'm Norma. I am a mother of two children, one of them in high school. My family and I came to the United States 4 years ago and since, I have been passionately researching the rich culture and traditions of this country. My inner teacher awakened 2 years ago when I taught in a bilingual institution to Pre-K students, this experience taught me how to grow as a mentor and I wish to continue on that path. As part of my job, I was in charge of planning my lessons as well as instructing them. The kids I taught were incredible and I remember each one of them as I cherish them deeply. In the process of settling here, I have had many people collaborating to help me advance and get where I am at the moment and as part of the community I would like to give back from its roots, teaching our youth essential skills and helping them find their passions through my lessons.
I thoroughly enjoy interacting with different cultures and learning from them, creating and developing new points of view and talking points along the way. I believe education is the most important part of any society and our children should have the opportunity to thrive regardless of their struggles with traditional schooling. As an adult learner, I also believe that not only children should be our priority in our education system, instead we should offer support to our parents and essential workers, to our nurses and firefighters. Everyone deserves to learn the way they want to!
I received a score of 11 out of 20 in my High School Equivalence test (HiSET) and have helped my daughter with complex integrated mathematics topics which included geometry and algebra. I also have post-secondary studies and qualifications in my home country.
I am a native Spanish speaker, my level resembles advanced academic Spanish which is used in most professional and formal settings.
