Hello! I’m a chemistry graduate from Emory University and currently an Organic Chemistry Ph.D. candidate at Vanderbilt University. I have over 6 years of tutoring and teaching experience, including serving as a teaching assistant for both general and organic chemistry. I have led discussion sections and office hours, worked one-on-one with students, and graded exams and assignments, giving me insight into what instructors look for and where students commonly lose points.

I began studying chemistry in high school, where I earned As in Honors and AP Chemistry and scored a 5 on the AP exam. At Emory, I graduated with a 4.0 GPA in my chemistry major coursework and completed courses in general, organic, physical, analytical, and biochemistry.

One of my greatest strengths as a tutor is my ability to break complicated concepts into clear, manageable steps. Chemistry can feel overwhelming, and I remember what it was like to learn these topics for the first time. Rather than relying on memorization, I help students understand why something works so they can confidently apply that knowledge to new problems.

I can help with general chemistry topics including stoichiometry, thermodynamics, equilibrium, acids and bases, redox reactions, and solubility. I also have extensive experience in organic chemistry, including nomenclature, Lewis structures, resonance, stereochemistry, functional groups, reaction mechanisms, orbitals, and common organic reactions. I have also completed and taught multiple chemistry lab courses and can assist with experiments, calculations, data analysis, and lab reports.

Whether you’re preparing for an exam, struggling with homework, or want chemistry to finally “click,” I’d love to help you succeed!

And a parting chemistry joke: Why can’t you trust atoms? Because they make up everything!

Kathyrn helps you to understand Chemistry at your pace.

Our son's college Chemistry 110 course at UIC has been daunting and difficult as the professor has a class of 254 students and moves through the work rapidly. We have tried two other older tutors who tried to assist our son in the exact method of the professor, fast and furious like his professor and it was a bad experience. We are so thankful that Kathryn was available as she understood exactly the difficulties our son was having and helped him to better understand the coursework. At mid-terms he is about a B average and at least half the class is failing, is it the class itself or the professor? Whatever may be are grateful that Kathryn is an excellent tutor, and cannot thank her enough!

Really helpful and friendly!!

She did a really good job of explaining the concepts and even when I didn’t get it the first time she would go back and teach it again. She made sure to ask me if I grasped everything well and was also really east to talk to. She managed to explain chem concepts in clear methods that my professor couldn’t do either. I definitely recommend her!

Knowledgeable and relatable tutor

Kathryn went over quantum mechanics, wavelength and energy equations, and even going as simple as Stoichiometry equations. She went over any and every topic that I found myself struggling with and just overall helped me feel more confident for my midterm that was coming up. Highly recommend for people who need assistance in general chemistry courses especially for college or ap levels
