I’m Jennifer!
I graduated with my doctorate in pharmacy and a minor in Leadership Studies and Human Resources Management and I am currently working on my MD. I have over 11 years of tutoring experience, with a particular focus on English and Reading. Growing up, my education had a strong focus on critical reasoning and gaining an in-depth understanding of the elements of language. In college, I realized many students often struggle with some of the foundational concepts involved in these subjects, which can result in difficulty in effectively comprehending long passages as well as in academic writing. I was often shocked to realize not everyone had been taught the same tricks and workarounds that made these subjects easier. My ability to combine these concepts with the many tips and tricks I have accumulated over the years has allowed me to engage with a wide variety of students and help them develop stronger skills for reading and writing at a higher level, particularly as it relates to standardized testing.

I am skilled at helping students prepare for the reading and critical reasoning sections of tests such as the SAT or MCAT. Many students find the reading and critical thinking section (particularly on the MCAT) to be one of the most difficult and I sincerely enjoy helping them find new ways to approach those sections. I can also help students improve academic performance at all levels through learning new ways to approach long passages and improved habits in critical thinking. I also love helping students proofread their papers and I strongly believe this is a great way to help them improve their own writing skills. I have tutored all levels from middle school through graduate and professional school. I have experience with students at most levels of proficiency and work to match my tutoring style to the needs of each student.

I see my students as individuals and treat everyone with respect. I always want my students to feel as if they can ask me anything and strive to keep my sessions open and inviting.

Biostatistics

Biostatistics

I am currently employed by my school as a certified tutor for professional students; biostatistics is one of my most popular courses. To qualify to tutor any subject through that program, students have to not only show consistent high-level performance in that particular subject, but must also be recommended as a tutor by the course's faculty. I have been tutoring this subject professionally since 2019, however, I also helped students through the material on an unofficial basis for a few years before that. While earning my PharmD, I completed 2 years of biostatistics courses, in addition to pursuing a subspecialty track in Public Health. I then entered medical school, where I completed an additional 2 years of biostatistics coursework, in addition to further Public Health training. I also have evidence of my performance via standardized board exam scores, which place my statistical knowledge well above the average.
Career Development

Career Development

I have several years of experience in student mentorship and development as well as professional experience in reviewing prospective applications, primarily in healthcare fields. As a pharmacy manager, I was responsible for reviewing applications and resumes, candidate selection, interviewing, and eventual employee hiring and training. I was also involved in placing certain candidates in positions that would best highlight their particular strengths, in some cases that involved reviewing several potential work roles and environments in addition to discussing the pros and cons of each option with employees in order to find their best fit. On the collegiate level, in 2019, I started a campus-wide professional development initiative for college students in order to help students become more competitive applicants for healthcare positions after graduation. I also started two high-school level mentorship programs to help students interested in healthcare careers. Additionally, I have over 10 years of experience in editing resumes and CVs. I have experience in multiple branches of healthcare and can help students of all levels interested in a health field in building a strong application, planning out their trajectory through school, or even simply learning about the different options available in healthcare.
College Counseling

College Counseling

I have an extensive background in assisting students of all ages to plan their future trajectory. Primarily, I assist students who are interested in pursuing careers in healthcare- and STEM-related fields, though I have also worked with students interested in other areas as well. Since 2009, I have returned to my local middle school at least once a year (if not more), to talk to the students about planning for college. In my own college experience, I was a resident assistant for 3 years (2/3 for freshmen girls), during which time I was tasked with helping students to have a smooth transition to college life and to help them through whatever troubles might arise (including thoughts of changing majors or planning extracurriculars in order to apply to various graduate programs). More recently, I was elected to act as the high school outreach chair at my school. During the year I held that position, I started two high school student mentorship programs with a goal of helping to motivate underserved students in my area to pursue a college education. Through this, I was able to talk with my mentees about their future goals, inspire them to see college as a feasible option, and then to see what they might need to do or plan for in order to get where they want to go. I also teach presentation skills, interview skills, and professionalism to help students display the best versions of themselves. I even have experience holding financial planning discussions with students and teaching them how to overcome various challenges in gaining access to the education they want. I've even put on career fairs (1 this year will be virtual due to Covid). Additionally, I have over 10 years of experience in editing resumes/CVs and personal statements. I have degrees in healthcare and management, paired with experience in and connections to multiple branches of healthcare, public health, education, and finance. I can help students of all levels, particularly those interested in a health field, in building a strong application, planning ou
English

English

I have been formally tutoring English since 2010. I have experience working with students learning English as a second language as well as native English-speakers trying to brush up on their writing. I am also available for editing work and have been involved in professional editing and proofreading for close to the same time period. I am also a published author with work in various styles of writing.
MCAT

MCAT

I have a lot of experience in test-taking and tutoring students in test prep. I have taken the SAT, PCAT, and MCAT and scored well on each. Specifically, on the MCAT, I scored in the 98th percentile on the CARS (critical analysis and reasoning) section which falls in line with my experience tutoring English and Reading.
Pharmacology

Pharmacology

I studied pharmacy and pharmacology for 6 years before receiving my PharmD in 2015. I also tutored underclassmen in pharmacy during my final two years at school. I then passed the national board exam and practiced as a pharmacist from 2015 until 2018 when I entered medical school. I am currently a 3rd-year student and I have been tutoring pharmacology to medical students since 2018.
