I'm an award-winning writer, editor, and educator who has taught writing and literature in US and international universities, colleges, and college-prep schools for 40+ years. I was a nominee for the Middle Tennessee State University 2026 Gen Ed English Teaching Award. I’ve led faculty workshops on engaging students with multiple intelligences to become confident critical thinkers and strategic writers, readers, and researchers.

I love helping students navigate the college admissions process. I've served on scholarship committees, read for the AP English Exam, and taught AP, SAT, and ACT English courses. I’ve taught ELL students and adults in the US, Morocco, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, and Italy.

Admissions officers skim thousands of resumes with stellar grades, top scores, and extracurricular feats. Authentic, focused, compelling personal statements tip the scales. I empower students to claim and craft their unique stories illustrating what they value and how they’ll contribute to a school’s culture. Common App and university-specific prompts give students a chance to turn challenges into grit, setbacks into growth, and passions into pathways.

My students’ essays have opened doors to career promotions; Master of Fine Arts, medical, and other grad programs; honors colleges and universities in the US, Canada, and Europe (Columbia, George Washington University, Cornell, Brown, Stanford, New York University, Vanderbilt, Northwestern, Northeastern, Carnegie Mellon, SCAD, Hult International Business School, King's College London, American University of Paris).

As a former coach (Model UN, drama, journalism, clubs) and coordinator (career exploration, volunteer programs, and educational trips in the US, South America, Europe, the Caribbean, and Africa), I help students leverage their experiences in specific ways. I’m new to this site, but my students describe me on course evaluations as knowledgeable, committed, creative, inspirational, and kind. Let’s start reaching your goals!

Creative Writing

Creative Writing

For 40+ years, students in my university and high school English courses have amazed me with their raw poetry, short stories, creative nonfiction narratives, and scripts. With techniques, tools, and literary models, we craft and polish these pieces into works they're proud of. Likewise, adult students in my travel writing courses/ retreats in the US and abroad transport their readers with compelling tales (narrative essays and memoirs), vivid images, strategic diction, and memorable figurative language.
