Dear Student,

During my career in teaching, I have individually tutored many students. My style of tutoring varies by how the individual learns best. I have used computer software to teach different skills to students who are mainly visual learners. Often, I have put my computer image up on a large projector screen. I have demonstrated how software programs like MS Office, Adobe Flash, Adobe Dreamweaver, and many other well known programs by walking students through exercises that demonstrate software solutions for creating documents and images, as well as animation.
Other students have responded better to sound, as in teaching guitar. I have taught guitar students often by playing a passage or a riff so the student can listen to it played. I follow that with a slower rendition that details the fingering of the music that the guitar produces, and a step by step progression of chords or solo notes to be played. This gives the student help in both the right hand technique for picking, or strumming; also, the left hand fingering the fret board accurately. Combining sound with pictorial diagrams also can be very helpful.
Motion learners often do better with watching a film which is full of kinetic energy; motion conveying ideas in films like the ones I often used when coaching football and baseball.
It is very important to find the learning style or styles that work best for the learner, by adapting to the individual's needs; then tutoring can be a very helpful tool for individual growth.
