I've been tutoring the SAT, ACT, and English and history AP exams for ten years. I’ve been utilizing online tutoring tools including Zoom, Google drive, and Skype for years. You may be new to this, but I am not, and I can help you prepare for that college entrance exam (whenever it happens) or keep up with your coursework in history and literature.

If you’re a parent concerned that your child isn’t being challenged enough, I also offer enrichment lessons to keep kids engaged and to strengthen reading and writing skills. Whether we’re exploring the hero’s journey in Harry Potter or discussing how immigration shaped American through the lens of A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, I want your student to look forward to reading and discussion so that those becomes lifelong skills.

I'm a graduate of Wellesley College (undergrad) and Harvard University (masters), with an SAT of 780V/750M and a GRE score of 800V/770M (160/153 on the current scale). I have scored a 5 on both AP English tests, as well as the US History, Government, and Calculus exams (and a 4 on Art History). I was a peer tutor in college, I've taught English and political science at the high school and college levels respectively, and I've helped South African university students prepare for the GRE--so no matter where you fall on the spectrum, we can customize an approach to help you make the strides you want to make.

I really love tutoring English, literature, and social studies, among others, so whether you're getting a summer school credit out of the way, struggling to get through a tough course, or shooting for an A and a 5 on the AP test, I'd love to help you. I also work with students on college admissions essays and can help you navigate the process in a way that takes the stress and panic out of it.

Excellent tutor

Shannon helped prepare my daughter for her World History AP exam this year. Below is the review my daughter wrote for me to post. == Shannon tutored me in world history for one two hour session. I was initially having trouble writing essays and the test was only days away. Shannon was not only knowledgeable regarding the AP test structure and material (I even joked that she knew more than my teacher--I was half serious!), but was a great conversationalist, and made world history seem exciting for the first time since I had taken the class. She came equipped with study materials, including a timeline that covered every world region, and explained the broad themes I would need to know. I took the AP and I ended up feeling the most confident about my essays. I genuinely enjoyed our session, and almost found myself wishing I had still had trouble so I could meet with her again! 10 out of 10!

Shannon is Excellent

Despite being an excellent student, my daughter has really struggled with the English portion of the SAT. She was clearly missing key foundational elements that were being tested. Shannon had a clear focus for each lesson and we got a helpful summary every time they had a session. Most importantly, my daughter really likes working with Shannon and I suspect we will continue to do so through her senior year. Highly recommend.
