I earned my PhD in Astronomy from the University of Virginia in August 2026. My background combines advanced mathematics and physics with years of university teaching, and I enjoy helping students make sense of subjects that can initially feel intimidating.
At UVA, I worked as both an astronomy instructor and a teaching assistant, teaching undergraduate classes, leading discussion sections and telescope labs, and working individually with students during office hours. I have also taught astronomy to younger students in an afterschool program. These experiences have taught me how to meet students where they are, whether they need to rebuild foundational skills or tackle more challenging material.
My favorite part of teaching is watching a student move from “I don’t know where to start” to explaining a solution in their own words. I use clear explanations, visual examples, and guided practice to help students understand why a method works and recognize when to use it. Sessions are tailored to each student’s coursework, goals, and pace, with an emphasis on building confidence and independent problem-solving skills.
I offer tutoring in Algebra 1 and 2, Trigonometry, Precalculus, Calculus, introductory Physics, and Astronomy. I can help with understanding course material, preparing for exams, and strengthening the mathematical foundations needed for college-level science.
