I am an experienced, successful Debate Coach/Teacher at the national and international level, especially in Policy and LD debate. I know Debate extremely well, from all sides, and love teaching and tutoring it. I love the strategy, the concepts, the research, and I love helping people appreciate and understand it.
Besides teaching/coaching Debate, I am passionate about English, Math, and many other subjects. I'm a curious person, and I love learning alongside, and helping, students of any age. I've been involved with High School and College Policy and LD Debate for 30 years, winning a national championship as a debater and coaching national champions in High School and College. I've taught high school English, been a school Librarian, judged thousands of Debate Rounds, and traveled all over the U.S. and to Singapore for Debate. Right now I'm working in schools in a different role, so I'm not coaching a school, and the best use of my part-time is tutoring, so I'm excited to give students the opportunity to learn about and enjoy Debate, Literature, Grammar, and Math too.
My debate background includes being a TOC Policy Debate National Champion in 1999, a College Debater at UGA for 3 years, where I was an NDT Qualifier and NDT Elim Participant. I coached debate at UGA for 2 years, got a Master's in Speech Communication from UGA, then coached Policy and LD at New Trier in Chicago. I most extensively coached and taught at Montgomery Bell Academy in Nashville for 13 years, coaching multiple Tournament-winning, TOC-winning, Nationals-Award-winning Teams, and winners of the Novice and JV National Championship. I also taught at the Dartmouth Debate Institute for 5 summers in Hanover,NH. I have a Master's in Library Sciences, I'm most recently a Registered Nurse, and I've tutored ACT/SAT, Calculus, and PhD-level Math. I taught 9th grade English for several years as well as Research Skills to 7-12th graders for 12 years.
