Hi! My name is Gracie H., and I'm an Audio Engineering Technology professor at Belmont University. I have been a violinist and performer since I was 4 years old, and in college I found my love of songwriting and later music production and recording. I have over 10 years in professional audio engineering in live sound, production, and mixing. I also have been performing professionally for over 20! That being said, I approach music technology from a musician/artist perspective, so I believe I have a unique point of view of the field as I have been on both sides of the glass (in the studio).
As a professor, I focus on helping my students really *understand* the material, rather than just memorizing it to pass a class. Anytime I notice someone isn't understanding something, I try to explain it in another way that will make more sense to them. I am a big proponent of hands-on learning, as I believe doing something yourself helps solidify what you may learn in a book. I also focus on treating my students with respect and understanding, as they are the next generation and will someday run the industry!
I have never been an official tutor in a professional capacity, but I do often tutor students through office hours, so I have a lot of experience in that regard. I am very fond of working one-on-one to solidify in-class materials. That being said, I would very much enjoy a one-on-one process where I get to see someone develop their skills quickly! I am happy to receive feedback on any concerns, and will take them seriously so I can further improve my teaching and tutoring skills.
