Hi! My name is Alex, and I graduated with a B.S. in Computer Science (with double minors in Applied Math + Data Science) from Belmont University in May of 2025, with a 3.8 GPA and Magna Cum Laude honors.
I absolutely love math. High school math is my jam, anything from Algebra 1 to AP Calculus BC. During my senior year of college, I worked at my school’s Learning Center as a tutor for Precalculus, Calc 1, and Programming 1. Although I specialize in these classes specifically, I am more than willing (and able) to teach the whole range of high school mathematics, as well as SAT, ACT prep.
I have experience tutoring college aged students(18 to 20), in both 1 on 1 and small group instruction. Although my previous tutoring experience mainly includes college students, I would love to use this opportunity to start tutoring high school students as well. The foundation of my tutoring is to help students conceptually understand topics in math, and not just merely memorizing formulas. I believe the reason why so many students struggle with math specifically is that many teachers just make students memorize random formulas without providing the why behind it. I believe that most students who say that they hate math don’t actually hate the subject itself, they hate being confused and intimidated by math!
Additionally, I like to tailor my tutoring to the specific needs of my student. I usually start by identifying what specific areas the student struggles with, work a few practice problems together, and then leave some time at the end of our session for the student to work out some problems by themselves. Again, this approach can easily be adjusted based on the students needs.
Lastly, students or parents, I welcome any additional resources or suggestions that you think will be most helpful to you or your child’s success. I am easy to reach and respond promptly, so please feel free to contact me to schedule a lesson!
