Hi! I'm Kathleen! I have a Ph.D. in Molecular Pathology & Immunology from Vanderbilt University and a Bachelors degree in Chemistry & Biology from the University of Arkansas. I'm passionate about teaching, but even more about helping students find the curiosity in learning.

I have experience in teaching at the collegiate/graduate level as well as with middle school/high school students. I tutor a variety of subjects, including:
- High school Chemistry (honors and regular)
- AP Chemistry
- AP Biology
- Algebra II
- Precalculus
- General Chemistry 1 & 2
- Organic Chemistry 1 & 2
- Biochemistry
- General Biology
- Genetics
- Evolutionary Biology/Ecology
- Immunology/Pathology/Pathogenesis
- Advanced Level Chemistry (Inorganic Chem, Quantum Chem, Instrumental Analysis, Analytical Chem - higher rate applies for these subjects)

I also work with later-stage learners changing careers or looking to further their subject knowledge and offer individualized learning plans tailored to student's goals. Additionally, I have a lot of experience in science writing/communication and am happy to offer tutoring on writing (essays, college/graduate school admission, journal articles, etc).

Lessons with me are student-focused and tailored to each student's learning style. Expect to get talking in a low-pressure environment where my goal is to help, not judge. Want to review lesson slides and talk over the concepts you missed? ✅ Want additional practice on multiple-choice or long-form questions? ✅ Want to talk through your latest homework or test (don't expect me to do it for you though 😉)? ✅ I offer all of these and more, constantly updating as I get to know students.

My schedule is super flexible, so feel free to reach out with any questions or inquiries, and I'll get back to you ASAP!

Genetics

Genetics

I have a Ph.D. in Molecular Pathology & Immunology, which required advanced coursework in genetics to obtain. I spent 10 years studying immunology & genetics in school, and taught graduate coursework on these topics. I also used genetics extensively while working in the lab as a scientist, so I have hands-on knowledge about practical application.
Personal Statements

Personal Statements

I have extensive experience writing personal statements for graduate school. I also received an NSF-GRFP fellowship and spent 4 years leading workshops on how to apply for fellowships and grants. I have reviewed dozens of prospective personal statements and am happy to give feedback on how to make a personal statement stand out.
Thesis Writing

Thesis Writing

I wrote and defended a doctoral dissertation in graduate school and understand the amount of work involved. I also wrote an honors thesis in undergrad and am familiar with that process. I can give feedback on structure, content, or general writing.

Exceptional

Dr Kathleen is an exceptional teacher. She break down very dense difficult concepts and information in a very understanding manner fir my university genetics class. If I could have given her a billion stars I definitely would have. She is extremely knowledgeable instructor who is very student centered in her approach to helping me. I have had a fantastic experience with her as my tutor for my university genetics course. You will not go wrong having her as you tutor without a doubt. She is fantastic

Amazing tutor 10/10

She is so super sweet, understanding, and knowledgeable. As a tutor she helps me understand the information by working through problems and also allowing us to talk through ideas. I like that she doesn't just give me the answers as well. She will ask questions to get me thinking about the topic so I know I understand it. She has helped me a lot in genetics especially before tests. When I was studying by myself I was getting 60-70s and now I am getting 80's-90's on my exams!

Wonderful Support and Insightful Feedback

Ms. Kathleen was wonderful to work with. She helped me refine my Statement of Purpose with care, patience, and deep understanding of both structure and storytelling. She guided me in expressing my personal journey and research goals clearly while keeping my voice and authenticity intact. Her feedback was thoughtful, detailed, and genuinely encouraging. I’m very grateful for her help and she made a challenging process much easier and more confident for me.
