As a passionate educator with a strong background in English and Creative Writing, I strive to meet each student's unique needs through a personalized approach. I earned my M.F.A. in Creative Writing (Nonfiction) from the University of California, Riverside, where I crafted a collection of short story memoirs, one of which has been published. I hold a B.A. in English with a focus on Creative Writing and a minor in Psychology from the University of Mississippi. At UC Riverside, I received the Chancellor’s Performance Award for my writing skills and graduated with honors, achieving both Dean’s and Chancellor’s Honors.
For three years, I taught college-level Creative Writing at UC Riverside, instructing over 400 students. In this role, I developed engaging lesson plans, assessments, and materials to support both in-person and online learning. Before that, I worked as an English tutor at the University of Mississippi, providing one-on-one support to enhance students' grammar, composition, and essay-writing skills.
My tutoring approach is interactive and personalized to emphasize building a solid foundation in critical thinking and writing mechanics, empowering students to become confident, independent thinkers. Whether working with high school or college students, I identify and reinforce areas of difficulty. My method breaks down complex topics into manageable parts and develops strategies that make writing more approachable and enjoyable.
Creating a supportive environment is central to my teaching philosophy, where students feel comfortable asking questions and discovering their voices. I’ve found that being in my late 20s has become one of my greatest strengths as an instructor, enabling me to relate and connect with students to help them build stronger connections with their work. Creative writing can be intimidating—just as it once was for me. Sharing my own stories is crucial to my success, as patience and understanding are the cornerstones of effective English and writing instruction.
