My Ph.D is in Communication Studies (Rhetoric and Public Culture) from Northwestern University, where I taught Public Speaking classes. I have two master's degrees in communication-related fields from Vanderbilt University. I am also a former journalist and an award-winning author with extensive experience in writing, copy editing, proofreading, branding, marketing, and content creation. I have fifteen years experience teaching communications classes. I also have extensive experience training non-native English speakers to become more confident public speakers.

I grew up in a mixed-race family (our family pictures look like the United Nations!). My diverse family upbringing allows me to train clients from different cultural backgrounds with a unique sensitivity. One of my clients is Toronto-based educational startup OneClass, featured in Forbes, which has sent me to China twice between October 2018 and June 2019 to provide elite public speaking and communications training for students in 15 cities wanting to study in the most competitive colleges and universities in the world.

Teaching effective communication (in writing and speech) is my passion! I view teaching effective communication as a way to help people live better lives personally and professionally. My Master of Arts at Vanderbilt University focused on studying methods of literary criticism as a basis for examining how literature utilizes various themes, rhetorical techniques, symbols, and images to produce cultural meaning. My Ph.D in Communication Studies at Northwestern University focused on how literature and various forms of written texts shapes and influences behavior and culture. I have studied vast amounts of literature in my academic career including religious texts, fiction, poetry, academic essays, biographies, classical works, and debate society notes from previous centuries. I have studied the genre of biography extensively and have written an award-winning biography on a famous civil rights leader.

I have learned to read Hebrew and Greek and have translated many passages of scripture from the Old and New Testaments into English. I have studied the history of Christianity in America and Europe for both of my master's programs in Religion at Vanderbilt University. I have worked as an ordained minister at the historic Hyde Park Union Church in Chicago and have taken courses in religion from the University of Chicago as a part of my Ph.D program at Northwestern University. Additionally, I have taught classes in field education and preaching at the University of Chicago. I directed a department within a religious-based nonprofit in Chicago that provided specialized training to ministers, activists, and leaders pursuing ministry in urban contexts.

Additionally, I worked as the Learning Resource Center Coordinator at Daymar College, where I tutored students in writing, communication, research, job searches, job interviewing, managing stress and anxiety, graduate school applications, and essay writing for graduate programs. Finally, I served as an International Academic Advisor for the education startup OneClass, which was recently featured in Forbes. I have taught Speech classes at Northwestern University, University of Chicago, Chicago Theological Seminary, Belmont University, and Daymar College. I have been playing soccer since I was 7 years old. I a member of the first soccer team at my middle school, Central Middle School. Since I was 14 years old I have competed in local and national tournaments in both indoor and outdoor soccer venues. At Riverdale High School, I was a starter as a freshman. During my sophomore year, I was the team's leading scorer. During my junior year I was voted by the local newspaper, The Daily News Journal, as an ALL Star for the county. I was voted MVP in my junior and senior years at Riverdale High School. I was awarded scholarship to Western Kentucky University in 1998. I specialize in dribbling, ball control, passing, and field vision. My primary position was midfield but I regularly played forward and was an effective defender. What made me successful as a soccer player was my superior ball control and dribbling skills which I acquired over many hours completing drills at home by myself. I constantly played against semi-professional players throughout Middle Tennessee in competitive and casual soccer games. I know how to train soccer players to develop stronger ball control and dribbling, as well as the basic skills necessary to have fun or to advance to higher levels.

Zach was very kind and helpful from the beginning. Public speaking can be daunting but Zach puts you at ease. He gave me some good pre-class exercises to do. The lesson was super helpful. Zach assisted me in developing my own speaking style. I told him I'm an engineer and not a great speaker. He responded that some of his best experiences are working with people like me. He knows a lot about the subject. He helped me craft and deliver sermons and gave great feedback as I practiced several one-minute speeches. He showed me two book resources for future learning. This was well worth the time and money. Zach even gave two speeches that I learned a lot from. He is an excellent communicator and a genuinely nice guy ready to work with you. He is encouraging and that helps. This hour was interactive with lots of question and answer time that I appreciated. A five star experience. Highly recommended.
