Bio

I was the director of Sacred Heart Classical Center in Loves Park, IL.

I have tutored hundreds of students since 1975 in many subjects ranging from English to Spanish to German to French to History to Writing to Grammar, etc.

Most of my students have been home schoolers, and in fact, my wife and I home schooled our two children through high school. They are both college graduates.

I am most willing to tutor long distance through on-line emails.

American History

I have tutored American History for more than 20 years. My favorite methods for learning persons, places, and dates include devising flash cards and timelines. I enjoy making American History come alive for students especially through the "story" portion of "history".

My degree is in Modern Foreign Languages. I have tutored French for more than 20 years. I have special compassion for the struggling beginning student. Proper pronunciation and spelling are sometimes a huge obstacle for beginners. I enjoy helping them get past those difficulties.
German

German

I majored in modern languages (German, French, Spanish). Since earning my BA, I have tutored and taught those languages for more than 20 years. I have traveled extensively in Europe and spent a full year in Switzerland. I have also guided a group of English-speaking adults through Germany, Austria,Switzerland, Italy, Luxembourg, and France and acted as their interpreter. I enjoy assisting students of all ages as they tackle foreign languages.

I have tutored grammar to students from grade 4 through college level. My 20+ years of experience have made me highly sensitive to improper grammar. I enjoy assisting students who seem to flounder in grammar.
Proofreading

Proofreading

As a tutor for the past 20+ years, I have corrected (read: proofread) thousands of student-generated compositions. I am a stickler for proper grammar, punctuation, usage, spelling, and vocabulary. Generally, students who need proofreading help are weakest in at least three of those areas. And I am very happy to help!
Reading

Reading

For about seven years I tutored reading students in small groups (up to eight students but sometimes as few as two) and enjoyed it immensely. I have a high energy level and am very patient.
Spanish

Spanish

My degree is in Modern Foreign Languages. I spent some time in Spain a few years ago,and I was translator for a Canadian company for a while in the Dominican Republic. It is exciting when I am able to help a struggling student gain the confidence to face Spanish class every day.
