I am Benjamin White, and I graduated from college with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry. I am currently a PhD student in inorganic chemistry at the University of Tennessee Knoxville. I have experience with one-on-one tutoring for sixth grade math and high school chemistry, as well as experience as a teaching assistant in the lab.
When I entered college as an undergraduate, I was at the end of a prolonged battle with Lyme disease, which impacted me cognitively for some time. During this period, learning was harder. I had to try and try different ways to make myself understand complex subjects, such as math and chemistry. In doing this, I learned how people learn. I bring this to my tutoring approach because I know what it feels like to just not get it. I am passionate about the fact that this has nothing to do with intelligence. It is just a matter of finding a WAY to convey something that a particular person can grab and run with.
I am easygoing and always compassionate, eager to answer any and all questions. Again, I feel so strongly that anyone can learn anything. It just takes patience and persistence. I try to have a variety of ways of approaching all areas of study in order to be able to pivot should an approach need to be abandoned for another. Please contact me with any questions.
