About Zach

Bio

My name is Zach and I have tutored and taught in various capacities over the last fifteen years. In 2011, I graduated from the George Washington University with a Bachelor of Arts and a double major of Mathematics and English. One year later, I earned a TESOL/TESL/TEFL certification from Oxford Seminars. My studies prepared me well for the GRE, on which I scored a 166 on the Verbal Reasoning Section (97th percentile), a 167 on the Quantitative Reasoning Section (93rd percentile), and a 5.5 on...

In 2011, I graduated from the George Washington University with a Bachelor of Arts and a double major of Mathematics and English. One year later, I earned a TESOL/TESL/TEFL certification from Oxford Seminars. My studies prepared me well for the GRE, on which I scored a 166 on the Verbal Reasoning Section (97th percentile), a 167 on the Quantitative Reasoning Section (93rd percentile), and a 5.5 on the Analytical Writing Section (98th percentile). This experience also prepared me well to tutor similar exams, such as the SAT and ACT.

I started tutoring neighborhood kids in Math while I was still in high school, and continued tutoring middle school kids in Washington, DC in Math while in college. After college I also tutored Math, Reading, and Writing in a NYC elementary and middle school. From 2013 until 2015, I served in the Peace Corps in Ecuador, where I taught English to students of all levels; I also taught Art, Music, and Physical Education at the elementary and high school levels. Later, when living in Mexico, I taught a GRE Prep Course and also tutored various individual students in English.

For the past three and a half years, I have been a full time high school Math teacher, and during the first two years of that stint I earned a Masters of Arts in Teaching at the University of Mississippi through the Mississippi Teacher Corps. It has been a rewarding experience that has exposed me to many different types of students and learning styles.

I love helping students realize their full potential, empowering them to be able to teach themselves. I'm excited to work with students of all ages and abilities. I look forward to getting to know you and want to earn your trust; please don't hire me feeling any pressure, whatsoever. Tutoring is a collaborative experience, and I look forward to taking on whatever subject you need help with together.

Common Core

I have been a middle and high school Math teacher for over three years now, and for more of two of those I was a sixth and seventh grade math teacher preparing students for state assessments. For all my classes, I design and implement lessons that align with Common Core standards. Furthermore, I majored in both Math and English in college, and I scored exceptionally high on the GRE (above the 90th percentile in all categories). I feel prepared and capable of tutoring students on Common Core standards.

Finite Math

This is my fourth year as a public school middle and high school math teacher; I majored in math in college (along with English), and I passed the Praxis Math exam in order to become a teacher. I have taught nearly all math subjects between sixth grade math and senior level courses such as Algebra III, Advanced Math Plus, and Calculus (this was not AP Calculus as I am not certified for that). I feel prepared and capable of being an effective Finite Math tutor.

GRE

My name is Zach Borenstein, and while I am currently a high school math teacher, I have experience tutoring the GRE. I double-majored in Math and English (with a concentration in creative writing) while in college, and it prepared me well for the exam. I scored 166 on the Verbal Reasoning section (97th percentile), 167 on the Math section (93rd percentile), and 5.5 on the Analytical Writing section (98th percentile). I am confident I can assist you with breaking down concepts so that you better understand the test and improve your performance. Good luck, and I look forward to working with you!

Patient and experienced

Zach is an excellent tutor! He helped my son feel more confident in his math abilities by breaking down the information in small pieces. He also taught him how to improve his organization skills

Zach is a wonderful teacher!

I've been taking English classes with Zach for more than two years. In our sessions, we usually read a short story and discuss it in depth with questions that Zach asks. I've also written many persuasive and informative essays. Another big benefit from my classes with Zach has been vocabulary building, which has made my writing more effective. Overall, my writing skills and reading comprehension have improved a lot because of my classes with Zach.
