Wendolyn P.

My name is Wendolyn P. I am a retired teacher. My certification is in grades 1-12, English and Speech, as well as a Master's in Special Education from Walden University Online, where I obtained a 3.50 GPA. My undergraduate work was
at Memphis State University ( now The University of Memphis) between August, 1970 through January, 1975. I chose those areas because I have always loved to write and analyze poetry.

I am in the process of getting my first poetry book published. I have also written twelve children's books, thus far, in which I do my own illustrations. I taught 35 years in the Memphis City School System. I retired November 16, 2011.

When teaching promotional 12th grade English in summer school for a high school, I taught my students how to write comparative analysis compositions based on the curriculum and one of my poems. They also used movies that were popular at the time and compared them to the curriculum pieces or one of my pieces in a composition. I enjoy writing poetry based on a specific skill I may be teaching in reading or literature. I believe this keeps things interesting for the students. Teaching phonics and reading comprehension are two of my very strong areas and ones I enjoy very much. I also have very good penmanship for manuscript as well as cursive writing. Teaching is all I have ever wanted to do and still love to do. When I can reach a student and get him/her to understand something they could not before, it makes me feel as though I have really helped that child. Achieving success during their lessons is all I want for them. This way I know they can carry on what they are learning and ultimately use it to give back to the community. Giving
