With over 2 1/2 years of experience tutoring undergraduate and graduate students in writing at a local Christian college, I specialize in helping our city's future scholars prepare for and excel in higher education. Being the first in my immediate family to attend college, having graduated summa cum laude, means I understand that academic success requires dedication and hard work, both of which I expect from my tutees.

Because I'm a Christian, my approach to tutoring somewhat varies from the standard. I begin by acknowledging each student's intrinsic worth, as everyone is made in God's image (imago dei). This also means I recognize each person's capacity to reason and learn. However, I realize each student faces unique challenges. Therefore, my focus is identifying those hindrances, working with students to develop the skills they need to be successful not only academically but also in their future vocations. In short, my goal is not merely to help someone attain a specific letter grade but to help the whole person grow into his/her potential.

Performance Arts Lessons:
Acting & Drumming

Let me tell you a bit about myself. I had no acting experience before college. However, during my time there, I played several roles in various plays, eventually serving as student director in the drama ministry. Possessing some natural talent, I was able to help fellow thespians not only strengthen necessary skills, such as voice projection and stage utilization, but also develop their characters.

Also, I'm a third generation drummer with over twelve years of personal experience. Currently, I perform in weekly worship services at a local church. My personal philosophy regarding music is to focus less on the science and more on individual expression; however, I also emphasize the need for diligent practice.

In short, my training and years of experience as an actor and musician only supplement my passion for both crafts, and I want to help you take your skills to the next level.

I had no theatre experience before going to college, but after one show, I caught the acting bug. I played several roles in various plays and eventually served as student director and acting coach for the drama ministry. History

Bible Studies,

Bible Studies

During my 2 1/2 years as Lead Writing Tutor at a local university, I tutored hundreds of students. Being a Christian Ministry program graduate, most of my tutees were sent to me by teachers in the Dept. of Bible and Theology. Now, I'm currently working on a Master of Christian Studies. What this means is that I have advanced knowledge of biblical hermeneutics (exegesis) and sermon development (exposition).
Religion,

Religion

As part of my undergraduate studies, I studied all of the world's major religions; however, this was always through the lens of a distinctly Christian worldview. Nevertheless, I realize that to discuss religion is to discuss the human experience, as nearly every people group in history has ascribed to some form of belief in the supernatural. We strive to understand these beliefs because they inevitably shape our cultures. Ultimately, my hope is that gaining understanding will foster a stronger sense of community.

Drums

I have over twelve years of personal experience playing drums in both jam bands and worship teams. When helping aspiring musicians refine their skills, I encourage both consistent practice and creative expression. Students must own a drum set and be willing to commit to at least one month of lessons, which translates to one lesson per week for four weeks.
