Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT Math

College math courses whilst studying for a college degree in Biochemistry. Hands on math skills during PhD laboratory data analysis. Twenty plus years experience in teaching and training graduate students.

Algebra 2

I have used algebra in a practical way during my career in research. I tutored high school level to college level algebra to adults who attended evening classes when I lived in the United Kingdom. Since then I have tutored numerous algebra 2 students over the past several years in the United States.

I have tutored AP chemistry and college level chemistry with numerous students over the past several years through Wyzant. I have also used my extensive knowledge of chemistry in my previous career as a biomedical researcher that spanned over 20 years. During my career, I showed medical students and grad students how to use the principles of chemistry in the laboratory.

Elementary (K-6th)

During my time as an undergraduate, I volunteered as a teaching assistant in a London summer school program where I taught elementary school level reading and writing skills. I also tutored a small subgroup of eight year old children that were struggling with multiplication and division. More recently, I have two daughters who are currently in the optional program in the Memphis City School system. I have tutored them in all their subjects and thus I am current with the most recent curriculum and materials. I appreciate that understanding, kindness and patience are important aspects of tutoring little ones.

I have home schooled Geometry previously and I have acted as a volunteer tutor this subject in the London school system when I lived in the United Kingdom.

Organic Chemistry

I have studied organic chemistry as an undergraduate and I have the UK qualification of an Advanced Level in Chemistry. Additionally, I studied organic chemistry further as part of my B.Sc degree at Kings College, University of London, where I obtained a joint honors degree in biochemistry and microbiology. Organic chemistry was also a part of my day to day working life as a biomedical researcher.

Public Speaking

I have 20 years experience in public speaking at large scientific conferences where I have presented my work to audiences of several hundred people. I have trained many students over the years to present their ideas in a clear, professional and engaging manner. I have helped with content, keeping pace with time, nervousness and question and answer sessions.

Extensive experience in writing peer reviewed published articles.

I studied Zoology at Advanced GCSE level in the United Kingdom. This course required two years of full time study and was part of my prerequisites for entrance into the University of London.
