About Rachel

Bio

I began tutoring special needs children in the 5th grade and fell in love with teaching. After receiving both an Associates of Arts (2001) and Associates of Science in Nursing (2009), I found that I could do two things I love; care for those in need and teach! I received straight A’s throughout all of my nursing courses and I tutored other students along the way.

After receiving my RN, have worked in various areas of nursing, including Telemetry, Med/Surg, Charge Nurse, and Supervisor. I also became certified in wound and ostomy care. I have worked extensively with newly hired staff on assessment techniques, pharmacology, medical terminology, understanding telemetry, wound care, and critical thinking skills. My favorite motto: The only stupid question is the one you didn’t ask. Favorite question for my students: Does it make sense?

The human body is fascinating! While I tutor Anatomy and Physiology, my real passion is helping nursing students grasp the concept of critical thinking skills. To become a nurse, you have to train your brain to think a bit differently than you are used to. And I have some good tricks up my sleeve to remember the classification of many medications, as well as their uses and side effects.

I have been writing and proofreading since High School. I won awards for poetry at the collegiate level while a Freshman in High School. I have assisted students with both MLA and the dreaded APA format used in Nursing School.

I was the first person in my class to both take and pass the NCLEX with only 75 questions. I can help you select appropriate prep material. The trick is to use those critical thinking you have developed combined with test taking strategies that I can help you develop.

I look forward to helping you, not just succeed, but to excel. I can help you improve your grades, pass your classes and your NCLEX, while preparing you for the real life experiences you will encounter as a new nurse.

Anatomy

I have an ASN and a strong A&P/Nursing background. I made A’s in A&P I and II, while tutoring others in my class. I have worked with Nursing students on systematic assessment of every major body system (function, structure, etc).

NCLEX

I passed my NCLEX on my first attempt with 75 questions. I have had ample time as a floor nurse, charge nurse, house supervisor, and wound/ostomy care specialist to put into practice all of those critical thinking skills that you will need to pass your boards. I’ve done hospital orientation for new hires, and have worked with new grads as a mentor (they orient with me on the floor for up to 4-6 weeks depending on their progress) which involves extensive teaching. I can help with strategies that will assist you achieve a better outcome on your exam.

Exceptional NCLEX tutor

I had a total of 5 sessions with Rachel, and she is the best out there. Right from the beginning, she told me how to structure my studying/question banks and gave me tips on question tricks. Each session, we reviewed what she noticed as my weak points and taught me how to decipher the "better answer" using methods to breakdown the questions and answers. She was always available via the messenger whenever I had a question or needed a quick clarification. She also provided additional study material, which I feel helped solidify the knowledge I needed. This was my second attempt at the NCLEX, and I came in like a wrecking ball - I knocked it out at 78 questions, and I thank Rachel every day for the help. She is literally the NCLEX whisperer, every bit we covered and tidbits she gave me were word for word in the NCLEX questions.

Best Tutor

Rachel has all the qualities I was looking for in a tutor. She’s friendly, extremely knowledgeable and genuine. I felt like I could ask her anything and there were no dumb questions. Rachel has a gift of explaining concepts and lessons in a way that is easy to understand and remember. And her exam strategies helped calm my test anxiety and greatly improved my grades! She was a life saver this semester and I will continue working with her until I graduate. I highly recommend Rachel to anyone looking for a tutor!

First study session was great!

Rachel was able to iron out the basics of Oxygenation that I had so much trouble understanding and applied them in a clinical setting. I would definitely continue learning with her!

Realistic views and patient teacher

Rachel and I worked on prioritizing- which is an area I’m weak in. After the first session I felt like she had given me a couple tools to use for that and delegation- which was another area I was weak in. Overall- a great first session and I look forward to the next one with her.
