I am a retired attorney with over 30 years of experience in the education field; including teaching k-6, middle school, high school, and college. As an attorney, I specialized in Juvenile Law; including delinquent children, abused/neglected children, children with special needs, and children with educational problems.

My guiding principle as a teacher is to enable students to understand what they are learning in focused and logical steps. For example, in teaching writing, I stress the idea of the three c's: concise, concrete, and clear writing. In addition, I focus on hands-on learning; that is, the student who is intimately involved in his/her learning is: 1) better able to grasp the concepts involved; and 2) likely to be more motivated.

I was an active trial lawyer who also wrote legal briefs and argued in Appellate Courts such as the Supreme Judicial Court of Massachusetts. I can help your child read, speak, and write better. S/he will know how to present his/her ideas to the world in understandable terms and, more importantly, s/he will be more confident about his/her abilities. Being able to attack and understand problems in a logical and focused manner makes for a better learner and a better human being who can face the travails of life.

Highly professional and really cares about kids

Tom is an excellent teacher. My daughter really enjoyed his lesson. He edited my daughter's writing professionally and explained in detail on why and how he edited it and also encouraged my daughter to edit it by herself. After several rounds of editing, my daughter always gets amazed by the final version of her writing. Tom also provided additional materials and homework to help improve her vocabulary and grammar. My daughter said that Tom was the only teacher who put such big effort helping her on writing. We can feel Tom really cares about kids. He even reads the books which my daughter reads and gives recommendation and feedback on these books. It was clear that he had a strong background and knowledge about teaching kids. I have unwavering faith in Tom and his tutoring abilities. I highly recommend him!
