I am an experienced educator with more than 20 years of teaching experience in elementary and middle school settings. I hold a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and a master’s degree in Education, and I am currently completing a doctorate in Curriculum & Instruction with a focus in Educational Psychology. I have taught students in grades 4–8 in both Christian and public school settings, including 11 years teaching fourth grade at Maryville Christian School. During that time, I taught reading, writing, Bible, science, and technology, and I have also taught middle school ELA and science.
Reading and English language arts have been an especially important part of my teaching experience. I have worked with students with a wide range of reading abilities and have taught reading comprehension, vocabulary, fluency, writing, grammar, and responding to text. My approach is patient and encouraging, while also providing students with clear strategies they can use independently. I adjust instruction based on each student's needs and look for ways to make difficult concepts easier to understand. I have extensive experience helping students who lack confidence in reading and writing find success, and I enjoy building both skills and confidence. I would love the opportunity to work one-on-one with students and provide the individualized support that can be difficult to give in a busy classroom.
