Stephen H. is a musician new to the Nashville area, having performed and taught throughout the St. Louis, Missouri area for over 30 years. He served as Principal Horn of the Savannah Symphony Orchestra from 1995-1999, the Illinois Symphony Orchestra from 1999 to 2019. He was an extra/substitute horn with the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra, and accompanied the SLSO on two tours of Carnegie Hall. He currently serves as 2nd Horn with the Municipal Theatre Association of St. Louis and has performed in numerous musicals including Wicked, West Side Story, South Pacific, Mary Poppins and Les Miserables. Other orchestral experience includes extra/substitute with the Alabama, Memphis, and Nashville Symphonies. He has performed with such artists as Rod Stewart, Chet Atkins, Ray Charles, Doc Severinsen, Bernadette Peters, Frank Sinatra, Jr., Amy Grant, and Weird Al Yankovic. In 2017, he was Principal Horn for the Elvis is Live Summer tour, culminating in a concert in Memphis, TN which celebrated the 40th anniversary of the passing of Elvis Presley. One of the highlights of his career came in May of 2019, and October of 2022 when he was part of the orchestras that performed for The Who’s “Moving On” and “The Who Hits Back” tours. In the summer of 2025 he was hornist at Stages St. Louis for the new musical 'Austen’s Pride', based on her novel Pride and Prejudice.
Mr. Hanrahan is a former Adjunct Professor of Horn at the University of MO-St. Louis, Millikin University in Decatur, IL, and Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau, MO. In addition to private instruction, he holds sectionals and master classes with many area schools. He received both his BM and MM degrees in Music from the University of Missouri. He also attended Northwestern University where he studied with Dale Clevenger, Principal Horn of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. Additional instructors include Roland Pandolfi, James Wehrman, and Tod Bowermaster of the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra.
