I am an experienced tutor that's recently returned to Miami, FL. Prior to that, I lived in North Carolina where I earned my Master's degree and continued offering tutoring for another four years. While my career background is primarily in Mental Health, my work experience and volunteer work throughout the community have all been in education. I come highly recommended by clients and am very experienced, having mentored special needs foster children and previously provided tutoring for students ages 3 and up, including over 550 hours with Wyzant.

I provide weekday or weekend tutoring sessions for students ranging from a Preschool curriculum to Undergraduate education. While math and reading are my primary focus, I have experience in all of my qualified subjects. I have assisted with school projects, essay writing, homework assignments, and exam preparation. I also have experience with helping to write and edit admissions essays and personal statements.

While I provide both in-person and online tutoring services, I will only complete sessions for essay writing, college counseling, and study skills on the virtual platform.

Approved Subjects

ADHD

ADHD

Because of my extensive education in mental health and volunteer experience, I believe I'd be a great fit for any student with ADHD. I am a licensed therapist with experience diagnosing and working with individuals in this population. I know that students are not defined by a diagnosis and are each capable of success- if they are provided with a unique plan. With each student, I strive to come up with an engaging tutoring plan that attracts and focuses their attention on grasping the primary concepts, rather than memorizing the material. My techniques include worksheets, flashcards, online games, and much more.
College Counseling

College Counseling

Before being accepted to 7 out of the 8 undergraduate universities I applied to, I had completed countless hours of research on the prospective universities and the programs they offered. I have experience applying for financial aid, as well as scholarship applications, and I can help make applications, admissions essays, and life-changing decisions much easier. Since completing these tasks myself, I have earned my Bachelor's degree in Psychology and my Master's in Clinical Counseling.
Elementary (K-6th)

Elementary (K-6th)

I have tutored students from as young as 3 years old. One of my strengths is math, specifically Elementary- level math. I've also tutored in reading, science, and social studies at an Elementary- school level. I am involved in many extra- curricular activities involving children and believe that education should be a priority.
Elementary Math

Elementary Math

I have tutored several students in Elementary level math. I utilize a handful of teaching methods, including games, worksheets, and demonstrations on solving problems. Math is one of my favorite subjects, and I truly enjoy working with students in this subject.
Elementary Science

Elementary Science

From matter to energy to the types of rock, Elementary science is my kind of subject! I am currently majoring in a science field, and I have experience in tutoring science. When tutoring science in the past, I've helped students complete science experiments, class projects, and research.
English

English

I have taken AP Language and Composition at the high school level and a handful of English and Rhetoric courses in undergraduate school so I am familiar with many of the writing requirements. I have written a huge variety of essays, research papers, analyses, summaries, etc. In my opinion, writing is such a crucial part of one's education, and I am confident that I can help inspire you/ your child into becoming a better writer. I have excellent grammar skills, a strong vocabulary, and a lot of experience tutoring writing skills and editing writing assignments.
Grammar

Grammar

Grammar is a fundamental part of learning. I believe every child should have the experience in learning grammar skills and basic grammar "rules". I did phenomenal in my Advanced English Language and Composition course and have taken several workshops specific to grammar. I am confident that I have what it takes to instill grammar education in you/ your child.
Prealgebra

Prealgebra

Algebra is my absolute favorite subject to teach. It includes so much material, and fortunately, most problems tie into one another. Another great part of Algebra is that it's relatable and can be used in the real world. I absolutely love teaching and reinforcing Algebra skills, and I am sure that you/ your child would benefit from sessions with me.
Proofreading

Proofreading

"There is always room for improvement." is a common phrase used by teachers. Proofreading is simply an additional set of eyes to review work and implement new ideas to improve your writing. I believe that I would be an asset to proofreading any of your/ your child's work.
Psychology

Psychology

I am a graduate student at East Carolina University, majoring in Clinical Counseling. My Bachelor's degree is in Psychology so I have a heavy background with psych coursework at the university level. I have also taken both Psychology I and II in high school so I am familiar with the high school coursework, as well as the AP exam for Psychology. Continuing my education in psychology has expanded my familiarity with so much material in different areas of psychology. I have excelled at my knowledge of both old and modern psychology terms, and I am very confident in the subject. I think I would be a valuable asset to anyone who needs help in psychology.
Reading

Reading

Reading is a fundamental part of learning any subject. I believe that reading is the limelight to success and without it, there will be immense struggle. When tutoring in reading, I make sure students thoroughly understand what they're reading and they fully comprehend the surrounding material. I emphasize the use of context clues and inference clues.
Special Needs

Special Needs

Being raised by a special needs teacher for MDCPS, combined with my extensive education in mental health and volunteer experience, I feel like I'd be a great fit for anyone with special needs children. I am able to think of "out-of-the-box" ways to learn and know that goes a long way in working with any child. Children are different, despite their diagnoses, and I want to meet them where they are at.
Spelling

Spelling

I have been a great speller since my Elementary school years. Spelling doesn't come naturally for most students; it takes practice. As a tutor, I will constantly be rehearsing the sounds of letters and how they bind together to create words.
Study Skills

Study Skills

I am a current graduate school student who has always maintained good study habits, and I would be an asset in helping you/ your child study as well. Many people are passive learners and are used to memorizing before tests. What is more crucial to memorizing is understanding. I'd be thrilled to be an additional motivator to you/ your child.
Vocabulary

Vocabulary

As a university student, I have a wide range of vocabulary. Each day is an opportunity to learn more and expand my word bank. As a tutor, I will implement the lessons I was taught to expand my vocabulary. Vocabulary is not about knowing a word and how to spell it, it's about understanding the word and creating meaning to the word. As a tutor, I'd help you/ your child "understand" their vocabulary.
Writing

Writing

I have taken AP Language and Composition at the high school level and a handful of English and Rhetoric courses in undergraduate school so I am familiar with many of the writing requirements. I have written a huge variety of essays, research papers, analyses, summaries, etc. In my opinion, writing is such a crucial part of one's education, and I am confident that I can help inspire you/ your child into becoming a better writer. Dedicated, patient and honest!

Michelle has been tutoring our sons for almost the entire school year. I cannot say enough good things about her. She has an amazing work ethic and treats my boys with patience and kindness. The atmosphere in my house when it comes to homework time has changed completely. They don't avoid it or make any negative comments. Their grades are consistently A's & B's and the teachers write special notes on their report cards about being well prepared for class and being self-directed. With Michelle's help my boys are having a wonderful experience with school and learning, which is life-long.

Very skilled tutor, highly recommend!

I have so many amazing things to say about this tutor. I found Michelle when I was beginning the process of applying to grad school. I was applying for Master's programs in counseling and did not know what to expect or where to even begin. Michelle walked me through the entire process, and we spent most of our time together working on personal statements for my applications. She worked with me for several months while I applied to 7 programs. I was nervous and overwhelmed with this whole process, and Michelle was so calming and encouraging. She was not only highly knowledgeable and a great teacher, but she truly gave me the emotional support I needed to get through my applications. She had so much insight to offer me into the field and knew exactly what my applications should include to ensure success. She took everything I had already written and helped me polish it to sound more professional. She helped me dig deeper into my life experiences to create beautiful, personal essays that displayed my skill sets and showed who I am as a person. She went over multiple drafts with me, and together we moved through them and she would suggest corrections. She was extremely flexible with my rigorous school schedule and stayed up late with me many nights to help me submit my applications on time. After helping me with my personal statements, Michelle worked with me to prepare for the interviews for all the programs I applied to. She was able to provide expected interview questions and helped me elaborate and improve my responses. After working with Michelle, my interviews went exceptionally well and I was accepted into my top choice program. I truly believe I could not have made it to this point without Michelle's expertise. She is incredible not only with her tutoring skills, but also as a person. I would HIGHLY recommend her for any tutoring needs that you may have, you will not regret it!
