Middle school students are my heart. The middle grades tend to be particularly difficult as students navigate a period of social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development. With 10 years experience as a 7th and 8th grade math teacher, I have discovered many nuances of teaching math to help students experience success in math and begin to love learning. Throughout my ten years in education, I have had the opportunity to teach students of varying ability levels and with many different academic needs, including learning disabilities, ADHD, and dyslexia. I believe that all students are capable of success and that each learner has his or her own unique set of strengths. I have primarily taught 7th grade math, Accelerated 7th grade math, and 8th grade math, and I lead Math Club at my current school. Math Club was designed to provide challenges for advanced math students as well as close learning gaps that emerged in struggling students since COVID; through the Math Club I have provided tutoring services and created problem-solving, mathematical challenges for students, enabling me to achieve the goals of closing learning gaps and challenging students while creating a school environment that values high academic achievement.
I received my undergraduate degree in Middle Grades (4-8) Education from Johnson University in 2014. I taught computer during the 2015-16 school year, but moved to 7th and 8th grade math the following year. I later received my Master’s degree from Carson-Newman University in Curriculim and Instruction, followed by my Ed.S. in Educational Leadership from Liberty University.
