Hello and welcome! I'm Aslynn H., an assistant professor of Kinesiology with an MS in Exercise Physiology and an EdD in Kinesiology.

I have over 10 years of teaching experience, including time as a long-term substitute, 2 years in a high school classroom, and 8 years in higher education. Additionally, I have 6 years of tutoring experience and 13 years of coaching in track and field, strength training, personal training, and basketball.

Currently, I teach a variety of kinesiology-related courses at a land grant university. My teaching experience spans subjects like anatomy, exercise physiology, biomechanics, strength and conditioning, exercise prescription, sport psychology, and coaching. On the high school level, I’ve taught biology and ecology. I hold certifications as a NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) and a USATF Level 2 Certified Coach, and I recently completed my EdD with a focus on concussion recovery in female collegiate athletes.

I also offer paper editing, resume and cover letter reviews, mentoring, career development, and college/grad school application assistance. I can help students with subjects like Math (through Algebra 2), Biology, Psychology, English, Research Methods, and some lower-level Chemistry and Statistics. As a former high school special education science teacher, I am familiar with what needs to be done to appropriately scaffold lessons and develop study plans for students with ADHD. Also, as an academic with late-diagnosed ADHD, I have personal experience that has taught me some particularly relevant techniques as well as empathy for my students who struggle in the academic setting as well. Finally, with over a decade in the classroom and seven years of tutoring experience specializing in work with students with ADHD and other learning disabilities along with my personal lived experience, I feel very comfortable working with students in adapting to their particular learning styles and needs.

Over the last decade I have presented at several Coaches conferences to groups of 50+ coaches (local level) and most recently this year presented at the AAC&U Virtual STEM Conference (national level) to over 100 people as well as the SCPHRED Conference in South Carolina (state level). In addition to my presentation record, I also work as a college professor, where daily lecture presentations for 2-4 classes are required in addition to presentations and discussion to 75+ faculty on a monthly basis.

I have completed both an MS and EdD, which both required the development and completion of a thesis and dissertation respectively. I have also taught courses in research methods and literature review in the social sciences. I am comfortable working with students developing thesis statements, methodologies, revising thesis and dissertation work and completing literature reviews.

Ashlynn is a must if you are a Kin Major, she works with you to help you translate difficult concepts into easily relatable language. She also helps assist by your schedule and your needs at that specific lesson. Being a teacher herself, she also knows what your teacher might ask and how to help you formulate the problems based on how the professor might want it. Lastly, she also relates the subject to real world situations to visually conceptualize the subject matter. I would highly recommend!
