Hello, my name's Jacob and I'm a current doctoral student in the Audiology program at The University of Tennessee Health Science Center. Hello, my name's Jacob and I'm a current doctoral student in the Audiology program at The University of Tennessee Health Science Center. I am originally from a very rural area of Oklahoma where college was not a common path for High School seniors. However in High school, I was fortunate enough to work with an ACT prep tutor and I honestly feel that the help and insight gained through that experience directly correlates to where I am today. For my undergraduate studies, I elected to go out-of-state and attended Emory University in Atlanta, GA where I majored in Cognitive Psychology and Linguistics.

From High School onward I have been an avid tutor to peers and students in need, focusing mainly on college entrance testing (ACT/SAT). Furthermore, In college I tutored High School students in inner-city schools, as well as, struggling students in the Psychology program where I was able through sheer experience see what does and does not work for particular students. The most rewarding aspect of tutoring for me, is helping individuals reach their academic goals and being able to see the long-term outcomes tutoring has in their collegiate and professional careers.

As a doctoral student in a scientific field I am adept to analyzing passages and acquiring relevant information in a timely manner. Additionally, I scored in the 98th percentile on the ACT Science section when I myself took the ACT. Often times, I feel, pacing is the biggest issue with the science section as it's the last section on the ACT and often times students mentally "check-out" before completing it. Once intuitive strategies are utilized to analyzed passages quickly while only obtaining the information that's relevant, the section becomes less of an undertaking and students often see their biggest score increase on the Science section.

The Reading section oftentimes can be tackled using analogous methods to that utilized on the Science section, with pacing being essential. Likewise, the English section can be surmounted through practice
