Why I tutor

As long as I can remember, I've been helping students in school. I've spent much of my life as an academic coach -- from correcting my younger brother's algebra homework to editing college essays for high school students--because I enjoy it. Students ask me back because I bring enthusiasm, hard work, and personalized attention to each lesson.

What I teach

I specialize in coaching subjects at the high school and college levels, specifically Math (from Algebra I to Differential Equations) and English (from the basics all the way to AP English coaching/college essay coaching). I personalize each lesson, assign reasonable homework between sessions, and track progress every month.

I love teaching programming and specialize in C, C++, and R. I'm currently working as a software developer.

Math Tutoring

My strongest attribute as a math tutor is that I wasn't always particularly interested or good at math. In fact, what pushed me to pursue math in college and graduate school was having a high school teacher who took time out of her day to discover what I needed to succeed.

Similarly, I find for many of my students their struggle with mathematics isn't their discipline, ability, or desire to learn -- it's how they're being taught. I recognize that every student will have specific needs, that each lesson needs to be slightly altered, and that the approach to mathematical understanding will depend heavily on the student.

Customer Satisfaction

I appreciate the potentially huge impact that an academic coach can have on a student. As such, I value honest feedback and earnest input from my students and their parents. Never hesitate to communicate concerns or ask for specialized help.

Schedule & Availability

I am fairly flexible with my schedule but because I do my best to tailor lessons to each student, I prefer at least 12 hours of notice before a cancelled appointment.

I look forward to hearing from you!

Amazing tutor!

Did exactly what I needed in the small amount of time I had available and helped correct syntax. Patient and also informative. Will be returning for more lessons!

Knowledgeable and patient

Jonathan, is an outstanding tutor. He was able to filter and distill statistical knowledge germane to my problem set and was able to teach me all of the calculations in R Studio. I greatly appreciate his knowledge and his very reasonable rate.

patient and intelligent mentor

Jonathan is a very educated person, and he takes the time to explain things to you in such a way that.. this time it finally clicks! He is well spoken and poised, yet knows when to lighten the work load with a bit of humor if need be. This statistics class I need for my BA was terrifying in the beginning. After utilizing all the resources given, and even tutors provided by the school, I was still struggling with the course. Thats when I searched for outside help, and I am so overjoyed that I did! I saw many tutors available and chose Jonathan because he is so reasonably priced. I will assure you his lessons are worth every penny! Now after only 3 short sessions.. I actually believe I can pass this course! I wish I would have found him sooner! He makes learning something you look forward to

A Fear conquering gem of a tutor.

My session with Jonathan was so refreshing! He made me feel comfortable from the very beginning. He was very patient, and informative. During a difficult part of the statistics he was teaching me, he even came down to my level and used an unconventional way of showing me with his hands what upper - lower bound parameters looked like. He did a short overview of the lesson right before it ended to solidify that I understood what he taught. I feel hope for the first time since I started this course. Jonathan is giving me the tools i need to succeed in this unfamiliar land of graphs and numbers. I once called any math deadly predator, I can now call it a fluffy kitty. He will raise your confidence, as well as your grade! Excellent choice of tutors. Look no further, you have found the diamond you were searching for with Jonathan. Happy studying!
