Bio

After transitioning from a full-time teaching position to industry work, I have found myself missing the chance to interact with students. My favorite part about teaching is seeing the "ah-ha" moment, that moment when everything suddenly clicks, and everything a student has been struggling to understand suddenly becomes clear.

I believe that everyone learns in different ways, my goal in working one-on-one with students is to figure out what works for them, then building off of that. I strive to be flexible in my approach and ensure students understand the basic concepts being taught.

C#

C#

I have taught computer science classes based in C# for 5+ years, and my current position includes programming in C# (among other languages). I much prefer to work in Visual Studio when programming in C#, but do have some experience working with mono on Linux. While I occasionally get a bit dyslexic with respect to Java and C#, I am good about double-checking when that is a concern.
C++

C++

C++ was the second programming language I learned, and while I no longer code it in regularly I do regularly help students debug code written in C++. My most recent work with C++ involved writing a bridging framework which allowed a distributed Java-based system to communicate with C++ programs with minimal overhead. If I do not know how to solve a C++ problem off the top of my head, I know how to figure it out.
Computer Programming

Computer Programming

I am a graduate student in Computer Science, a big part of my every day work involves coding. I additionally have 1.5+ years of industry experience as a software engineer, where I have worked with a variety of languages. I have also taught several programming classes geared towards different undergraduate levels.
Computer Science

Computer Science

I have taught Computer Science classes to undergraduates for 10+ years. I've taught across the curriculum, from intro-level courses to advanced upper division electives. I have also been involved with the creation of curriculum for these courses.
JavaScript

JavaScript

I have used JavaScript in the past when developing websites. I have most recently helped students debug JavaScript in the lab. I am confident in my ability to look up the answer to any problems I have that I do not already know how to solve.
Linux

Linux

I have worked with Linux-based systems daily for over a decade now. I started working with Ubuntu, and currently use Fedora. I usually keep around a distro as a live disk on a flash drive to help diagnose problems.
Logic

Logic

Logic is a basic part of the computer science curriculum. Not only have I passed this course, I have also taught logic at both introductory and advanced levels. I am most comfortable with logic from a CS perspective, not formal logic arguments, so I am definitely more suited for basic tutoring.
MATLAB

MATLAB

My MATLAB usage is primarily restricted to coursework. I most recently used it for a linear programming class, as well as conducting NLP research. Because of my programming background, I am confident in my ability to use MATLAB at a high level.
Microsoft Windows

Microsoft Windows

Windows is my every day OS: I use it to work, write, and play. I am comfortable with XP, Vista, 7, and 8. As an intern, I spent 6 months as a Windows system administrator.
Networking (Computer)

Networking (Computer)

I work with distributed systems, which requires a strong networking background. I have successfully passed a graduate-level networking course. I have written multiple communications frameworks that make use of both UDP and TCP stacks.
Oracle

Oracle

I have taken courses which focus on the use of Oracle. I have also had internships where I have not only worked with existing Oracle databases, but needed to update them to accommodate new features.
Python

Python

I have taught courses in python, and use it almost everyday for processing tasks. I have also used python for AI and Data Science, with an eye for both prototyping and final solutions. I've most recently been working with Pandas in python to process large amounts of data and interact with databases.
