Bio

Hi, I'm Sari. I'm a published and critically-acclaimed author and performer. Over the last 27 years, I've taught at most of the best private schools in New York City. A chess prodigy who began teaching chess at 13 in schools and homes all over New York City, I also continued my passions of acting professionally and writing. For my undergraduate degree from Gallatin at NYU, I double majored in Writing and Utopias & Dystopias in History and Literature (very specific, I know!). I also have an...

I also have an MFA from Hunter in Playwriting.

The last 10 years I've focused on teaching primarily in special needs schools in New York City while continuing to run a theater company I performed with and wrote for and be the Artistic Director of a large performance venue. A writer my whole life, I scored 790 out of 800 on my English SATs. I’m also a passionate reader. Maybe you're already a passionate reader or maybe not so much. I believe there's a book out there for you and would love to help you find it. I'm dyslexic, understand the challenges that can create, and look forward to helping stories come alive for you too. I write fiction, non-fiction, and can also help you with tv scripts if that's your thing!

Teaching chess, writing, and drama are my passions. Teaching is a way for me to connect with the world and all my hundreds of students. I was taught that nothing is as empowering as learning to love learning, regardless of the subject. Looking at life with curiosity is a gift forever. I've had some amazing teachers who inspired me and taught me that teaching is a great responsibility, opportunity, and gift. Each student learns differently. It's my job to understand how You learn best and teach you that way. I'm patient, passionate about education, enjoy feedback and working with parents as a team, and am happy to review your work outside of our lesson time.

ADHD

ADHD

I wasn't diagnosed with ADHD until I became an adult and realized firsthand what a difference an early diagnosis can make, as well as some of the struggles that come along with having ADHD. I left my career teaching in mainstream schools in New York City to spend the last decade (pre-COVID) immersed in the world of special needs, teaching at many wonderful special needs schools in New York City including Gillen Brewer, Gateway, and the Lang school for 2E (Twice Exceptional students), working with students with special needs across the board, from dyslexia to ADHD or on the Autism Spectrum. I also had many private students with special needs. For the last two years I've been working with special needs students one on one or in groups online. I'm passionate about watching my special needs students thrive and enjoy working as a team with parents or other professionals. I'm extremely patient, nurturing, respectful, and invested in my students participating in the structure and dynamic of our classes.
Chess

Chess

I was a scholastic chess champion who began teaching in New York City's public and private schools at the age of 13. I've taught at almost 30 schools and had hundreds of private students. I primarily teach online now. Whether you end up competing or simply playing for fun, chess is shown to improve grades, social, emotional, and cognitive skills and help you become a better decision-maker. It also can be a good time! I like to break it down and teach it simply, it doesn't have to be hard and is extremely rewarding and a great way to make friends.
Guitar

Guitar

I first began studying and playing guitar one summer when I was 8 and had gotten sick and couldn't do much. My passion for guitar happily continued past that summer and became a part of my regular life. I've performed at venues in New York City and was the Artistic Director of a large music and performance venue in New York City where I was able to use my musical knowledge helping organize and produce concerts of all kinds regularly and working with our musicians as well as co-producing a jazz album by our in house band. I've been a professional teacher for 26 years.
Songwriting

Songwriting

As a songwriter and singer (and guitar and piano player), I performed throughout New York City and in Brooklyn. I also studied songwriting for Improvisers at Magnet Theater and performed impromptu musical performances with an improv group. I began studying songwriting in middle school and continued, pairing it with vocal training in high school. I'm open to all styles of music and conventional or improvisational approaches.
Theater

Theater

I was a child actress in New York City appearing in films, TV, Radio, Print, and, my passion, theater. A critically-acclaimed off-Broadway actress, I also pursued film. I continued acting throughout my 30s, creating a theater company and also becoming the Artistic Director of a 20,000 sft music and performance venue in New York City. I have an MFA in playwriting. I love sharing my love of theater.
