I have more than twenty years of experience working with high school students in mathematics and science in both classroom and one-on-one learning environments. I majored in Chemistry at Williams College and earned a master’s degree in Biogeochemistry from the University of California, Davis. I currently work at Baylor School in Chattanooga, Tennessee, where I support students through the school’s learning center and help them strengthen their understanding of challenging material.

In this role I regularly work with students in Algebra, Algebra II, Precalculus, and Calculus, as well as science courses including Chemistry, AP Chemistry, Biology, AP Biology, AP Physics, and AP Environmental Science. I also help students prepare for standardized tests such as the SAT and ACT. Most of my work involves individualized instruction with high school students ranging from freshmen building foundational skills to seniors preparing for advanced coursework and AP exams.

My tutoring approach focuses on identifying where a student’s understanding begins to break down and rebuilding that foundation step by step. Rather than relying on memorization, I emphasize helping students understand the reasoning behind concepts so they can apply their knowledge independently. Earlier in my career I also worked with students through tutoring programs associated with Deerfield Academy and Sacramento Country Day School, developing a patient and supportive approach that builds both mastery of the material and long-term academic confidence.

Approved Subjects

ACT Math

ACT Math

I have more than twenty years of experience teaching and tutoring high school mathematics and preparing students for the ACT Math section. I help students strengthen the algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and advanced math skills that appear on the ACT while developing efficient problem-solving strategies for the timed exam. My approach focuses on identifying gaps in understanding, reinforcing key concepts, and improving speed and accuracy so students can perform confidently on test day.
ACT Science

ACT Science

I help students master the ACT Science section by focusing on the skills the test actually measures: interpreting graphs, analyzing experimental setups, and quickly identifying patterns in data. Through my work at the Baylor School Learning Center, I have spent years working one-on-one with high school students on scientific reasoning and standardized test preparation. I teach students how to quickly locate key information in figures and tables, recognize common ACT question patterns, and avoid common traps that slow students down. My approach builds both speed and accuracy so students can approach the ACT Science section with confidence.
Algebra 1

Algebra 1

I have extensive experience helping students build a strong foundation in Algebra I, including solving equations, working with functions, graphing, and developing strong problem-solving skills. Through my work in the Baylor School Learning Center, I have spent thousands of hours working one-on-one with students to strengthen their understanding of core algebra concepts. I focus on breaking down complex ideas into clear, manageable steps while helping students recognize patterns and avoid common mistakes. My goal is not only to help students succeed in Algebra I, but also to build the confidence and skills they need for future math courses.
Algebra 2

Algebra 2

I have more than twenty years of experience teaching and tutoring mathematics, including Algebra II. I have worked with students in both classroom and one-on-one settings, helping them master key topics such as functions, quadratics, polynomials, logarithms, and trigonometry. My experience includes supporting students at rigorous college-preparatory schools and preparing students for exams and advanced math courses. I focus on breaking complex ideas into clear steps so students build confidence and develop strong problem-solving skills.
Biology

Biology

I have extensive experience helping students succeed in both high school and AP Biology by focusing on core concepts and scientific reasoning. Through my work in the Baylor School Learning Center, I have spent years working one-on-one with students to strengthen their understanding of topics such as cellular biology, genetics, evolution, and ecology. I help students break down complex biological processes, interpret diagrams and data, and prepare effectively for tests and AP-style questions. My goal is to make challenging biological concepts clear and manageable while helping students build confidence in the subject.
Calculus

Calculus

I have more than twenty years of experience teaching and tutoring mathematics, including AP Calculus AB and BC. I have worked with students from Algebra through calculus in both classroom and one-on-one settings, helping them develop strong conceptual understanding along with the problem-solving skills needed for exams. My experience includes supporting students at rigorous college-preparatory schools and preparing students for AP exams, SAT/ACT math, and college coursework. I focus on breaking complex ideas into manageable steps so students gain confidence and become independent problem solvers.
Chemistry

Chemistry

I have more than twenty years of experience teaching and tutoring chemistry at the high school level, including AP Chemistry and general chemistry. I have worked with students in both classroom and one-on-one settings, helping them build strong conceptual understanding while also developing the problem-solving skills needed for exams. My experience includes working with students at rigorous college-preparatory schools and supporting a wide range of learners through individualized instruction. I focus on breaking complex topics into clear steps so students gain confidence and independence in their chemistry work.
Geometry

Geometry

I have extensive experience helping students succeed in Geometry by building a strong understanding of key concepts such as congruence, similarity, triangles, circles, and geometric proofs. Through my work in the Baylor School Learning Center, I have spent years working one-on-one with students to strengthen both their reasoning skills and mathematical confidence. I focus on helping students visualize geometric relationships, organize their thinking for proofs, and approach problems step-by-step. My goal is to help students develop the logical thinking and problem-solving skills that make Geometry much more manageable and even enjoyable.
Prealgebra

Prealgebra

I help students develop the strong foundational skills they need to succeed in prealgebra and beyond. Through my work in the Baylor School Learning Center, I have spent years working one-on-one with middle and high school students to strengthen skills such as fractions, ratios, basic equations, and problem-solving strategies. I focus on clear explanations and step-by-step approaches that help students truly understand the material rather than just memorize procedures. My goal is to build both confidence and strong mathematical habits that will support students as they move into Algebra and higher-level math courses.
Precalculus

Precalculus

I help students build a strong understanding of precalculus topics including functions, trigonometry, exponential and logarithmic models, and analytic reasoning. Through my work in the Baylor School Learning Center, I have spent years working one-on-one with students to strengthen the skills needed to succeed in both precalculus and future calculus courses. I focus on helping students see the connections between algebra, graphs, and trigonometric relationships while developing clear problem-solving strategies. My goal is to help students gain confidence with challenging concepts and build the foundation needed for success in calculus.
Probability

Probability

I help students develop a clear understanding of probability by focusing on core ideas such as counting methods, permutations and combinations, conditional probability, and expected value. Through my work in the Baylor School Learning Center, I have spent years working one-on-one with students to strengthen their analytical thinking and problem-solving skills. I focus on helping students organize their thinking, recognize patterns in probability problems, and apply the correct strategies with confidence. My goal is to make probability concepts approachable and help students build the reasoning skills needed for success in math and statistics.
