I have more than twenty years of experience working with high school students in mathematics and science in both classroom and one-on-one learning environments. I majored in Chemistry at Williams College and earned a master’s degree in Biogeochemistry from the University of California, Davis. I currently work at Baylor School in Chattanooga, Tennessee, where I support students through the school’s learning center and help them strengthen their understanding of challenging material.
In this role I regularly work with students in Algebra, Algebra II, Precalculus, and Calculus, as well as science courses including Chemistry, AP Chemistry, Biology, AP Biology, AP Physics, and AP Environmental Science. I also help students prepare for standardized tests such as the SAT and ACT. Most of my work involves individualized instruction with high school students ranging from freshmen building foundational skills to seniors preparing for advanced coursework and AP exams.
My tutoring approach focuses on identifying where a student’s understanding begins to break down and rebuilding that foundation step by step. Rather than relying on memorization, I emphasize helping students understand the reasoning behind concepts so they can apply their knowledge independently. Earlier in my career I also worked with students through tutoring programs associated with Deerfield Academy and Sacramento Country Day School, developing a patient and supportive approach that builds both mastery of the material and long-term academic confidence.
