Hi there! My name is Kayla, and I am a university student pursuing a double major in Biochemistry and Neuroscience with a minor in Spanish. Driven by a deep love for advanced academics, I achieved a 35 composite score on the ACT, earned 5s on my AP Calculus, Statistics, and Biology exams, and won a gold medal in the National Spanish Exam twice. Today, I leverage this personal mastery to help younger students confidently conquer rigorous coursework, standardized testing, and language learning. My teaching journey began during my sophomore year of high school as a Spanish peer tutor, which grew into a role as a classroom Teaching Assistant for freshmen by my senior year. These multi-year experiences taught me exactly how to make intimidating topics feel approachable, patient, and relatable.

Currently, I balance my own advanced university coursework by working as an official college tutor for Biological Sciences and General Chemistry, guiding my peers through complex scientific concepts. Whether I am helping a high school student reduce their test anxiety or helping a learner master foundational science and language skills, I adapt my approach entirely to the individual. I focus heavily on introducing tricky topics creatively, explaining core concepts clearly, and then providing a supportive, pressure-free environment where students can practice independently to build genuine academic confidence.

Ultimately, my goal is to provide the absolute best personalized support for your unique academic goals. Because every student learns differently, I always start with a complimentary initial consultation meeting so we can chat about what you need and build a personalized game plan together.

To respect everyone's schedules, I maintain a standard twenty-four-hour cancellation policy, which I always review via email prior to our first official lesson. I am highly responsive and make it a priority to reply quickly to all messages, so please feel free to reach out with any questions or to schedule our first chat today!

Approved Subjects

Algebra 1

Algebra 1

As a straight-A math student who earned top scores of 5 on both the AP Calculus and AP Statistics exams, I bring strong academic expertise to tutoring Algebra 1. During high school math help sessions, I frequently mentored my peers by breaking down and categorizing complex concepts into manageable steps. My teaching approach relies heavily on visual aids and relatable real-world experiences to help students understand the actual purpose behind each mathematical process. By teaching students how to recognize specific question types, I empower them to confidently choose the right strategies and concepts needed to solve any problem.
Algebra 2

Algebra 2

As a straight-A math student who earned top scores of 5 on both the AP Calculus and AP Statistics exams, I bring strong academic expertise to tutoring Algebra 2. Biology

Biology

In high school, I took Honors and AP Biology, earning straight A’s and a 5 on the AP Exam, and I've continued that success at Vanderbilt University by getting A’s in my introductory molecular biology and organismal biology courses. I currently work as a biology tutor, which has given me great experience helping other students master the material. When teaching biology, I focus heavily on active recall and making sure students can accurately explain concepts in their own words. My goal is to give students the flexibility to apply foundational concepts to non-traditional situations and confidently predict the consequences.
Chemistry

Chemistry

After earning straight A’s in high school Honors Chemistry as well as my undergraduate General Chemistry lectures and labs at Vanderbilt University, I now work as a chemistry tutor. My teaching methodology uses practice problems to identify gaps in knowledge, clarify misunderstandings, and reinforce concepts so students leave our sessions confident enough to study on their own. I frequently prompt students to ask themselves: 'what does the question want?', 'what are you given?', and 'what do you know?'. This structured approach breaks down complex chemistry problems into manageable steps and provides students with a skillset they need to succeed independently.
Spanish

Spanish

During high school, I was a two-time gold medalist for the National Spanish Exam and went on to earn a score of 5 on the AP Spanish Language and Culture exam. My teaching experience includes serving as a high school peer tutor and working as a classroom teaching assistant for a Spanish 1 course. Through both one-on-one and group sessions, I have helped more than 20 students from Spanish 1 to Spanish 3 master new material and prepare for upcoming assessments. Now a student at Vanderbilt University, my goal is to enhance my students' study skills and conversational fluency so they can build true confidence in their language abilities.
