I’m a retired high school teacher with 35 years of classroom experience, specializing in AP European History and AP World History. Over the years, I also taught AP U.S. Government, standard World History, and Political Science. I also wrote the AP European History curriculum for two different school districts.
Tutoring gives me the opportunity to continue doing what I’ve always enjoyed—helping students succeed. I work primarily with AP students who want to strengthen their writing for the DBQ, SAQ, and LEQ portions of the exam. That said, I’m also happy to help with content review. If a student needs clarity or structure in understanding the bigger picture of history, that’s where I come in.
My approach is based on direct instruction—clear, focused, and supported by visuals when helpful. I teach history as it should be taught: in context, grounded in historical thinking, and guided by historiography. I consider myself an applied historian in the mold of Niall Ferguson, helping students recognize historical patterns and connect them to both the past and the present. I don’t bring politics or bias into the classroom—just a commitment to teaching factually and thoughtfully.
In 2010, I was honored as a Golden Apple Teacher of Distinction in Illinois, and I’ve received other teaching recognitions throughout my career. These days, I write full time—both fiction and historical fiction—and contribute to a number of publications.
