I am a practicing small-animal veterinarian with more than 25 years of clinical experience and a B.S. in Zoology from the University of Wisconsin–Madison and a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the University of Tennessee.
My strongest area as a tutor is helping veterinary and pre-veterinary students connect what they learn in the classroom with how medicine is actually approached in clinical practice. I especially enjoy working through clinical cases, interpreting CBCs, chemistry panels and urinalyses, developing problem lists and differential diagnoses, and helping students understand the reasoning behind diagnostic and treatment decisions.
My clinical experience includes internal medicine, dermatology, dentistry, urgent care, soft-tissue surgery, diagnostic imaging, preventive medicine, and long-term management of dogs and cats. I have also spent many years mentoring veterinary staff and helping others understand medical concepts and clinical decision-making.
My approach is conversational and case-based rather than lecture-based. I want students to understand why findings matter and how individual pieces of information fit together. Students are encouraged to send me the topic or material they would like to work on before the lesson so I can make sure I am the right tutor for their needs.
I am best suited for veterinary clinical medicine, clinical reasoning, laboratory interpretation, animal biology, physiology, zoology, and practical application of veterinary concepts. Students seeking highly specialized tutoring in memorization-heavy subjects such as detailed anatomy, molecular biology, or advanced basic-science pharmacology may be better served by a tutor specializing in those areas.
