Bio

I started when I lived in New York and was attending seminary. I worked full-time at the seminary but needed additional income. So I interviewed at a local tutoring center that specialized in the SAT but also worked with students on school subjects. When I took their diagnostic SAT to see whether I would qualify to teach, I scored 800 on math and 750 on reading, and they were ready to hire me on the spot :) Since then, I have worked for myself so that I can have the freedom to spend better...

I started when I lived in New York and was attending seminary. I worked full-time at the seminary but needed additional income. So I interviewed at a local tutoring center that specialized in the SAT but also worked with students on school subjects. When I took their diagnostic SAT to see whether I would qualify to teach, I scored 800 on math and 750 on reading, and they were ready to hire me on the spot :) Since then, I have worked for myself so that I can have the freedom to spend better quality time with students, one-on-one. The typical system with this company was three students to one teacher at a time...which caused teachers to feel frantic and divided. Now, I get to invest the exact right amount of time needed.

I graduated from a private college prep high school, Monte Vista Christian School, with a 4.2 or 4.3 GPA (I don't remember the exact decimals!). I took and passed 5 AP exams (Govt, US History, European History, Calculus AB, and Literature). I scored 1340 on my SAT in high school with no coaching or classes. Since then, I applied for a tutoring job several years ago at a test prep center in New York. Without refreshing, studying, or training, I scored a perfect 800 on math and a 750 on reading/writing. I graduated cum laude from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo with a B.A. in Communication studies.

I earned straight A's in math all through school, including in AP Calculus, and passed that AP exam with a score of 5. I have tutored students up through PreCalculus ever since. Furthermore, I've been coaching students on the ACT and SAT math for over a decade.

Like math, I've been coaching students through SAT and ACT Reading and Writing for 10 years. I have been a high school English teacher. I have written and published two books, and am a proficient writer (all kinds of writing). English was always my strongest subject in school and the one I loved the most. I scored a 5 on the AP Literature test as well.

I have worked with dozens of students one-on-one for ACT test prep. I have also designed entire workshops (online and in person), and have taught hundreds of students to boost their test scores in that capacity as well. Over the years, I have learned the ins and outs of the ACT and know the types of TIME-SAVING strategies that are necessary for even the best students to be able to get the score they deserve. I teach students how to blaze through the reading section, using only the minimal amount of time needed to locate and quickly answer the questions. I teach students how to play what I call "the ACT Science matching game" in order to not waste time getting bogged down in all the technical details and jargon. I give students the math skills AND the tricky ACT testing skills they need to conquer the math section. And with the English portion, equip students with a thorough knowledge of the very limited pool of grammar topics they need in order to do well.
